Now that you mention it... There was a study which did show how using the word need disturbs your brain a lot and causes a lot of shit in your thoughts. So saying "I need (have to) to pass this exam" for example can be very harmful.

I started an Economic & Arts (looking to major in Psychology) double degree, so i was headed down that path. But pure laziness and an aversion to further study lead me away

I must say that I find that strange. Without trying to make a racial stereotype, I work with skilled migrants coming into South Australia and the far majority of people we see from India want to continue to study when they get here even though they already have a qualification. It seems to be a cultural thing...
