I've heard of parents who tells their kids that grandma died so we are going back home (If they are in Europe). When they get back home grandma is OK but you're gettin married. Shit is fucked.

Also, due to the diversity of people among different religions and castes, it's difficult for parents to be accepting of brides\grooms outside of their religion and caste. That's one of the reasons why arranged marriage is preferred here. The parents get to choose a boy\girl of their religion n stuff.I'm 25. I tihnk the men get married between 25-30 usually. Girls get married young there.

Btw, I used to have a very Western view that arranged marriages are like a death sentence from your parents. I know a lot of friends whose wedding photos have them just getting to know each other and hold hands for the first time.
But in time, I've completely reversed that opinion. I've seen a lot of people -- a lot of people -- whose own ideas of romantic love and choice are completely idiotic and could use the help of an outside third party. It's certainly a very different model, but Western romantic love is completely laden with flaws, bad pregnancies, domestic abuse, alcoholism, extramarital affairs, and the stupidity of people who don't know themselves at all and continue to repeat fatal mistakes. It's such a screwed up and flawed system, random drawings or even choosings by your parents might be better.

I get what you mean, there are a lot of Jewish people here and they frown upon anyone who dates/marries someone outside their religion.
Some Catholics here are like that too, I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't let me marry a Jew
