They have to agree on a budget, for the last comple months they've kinda been renewing the budgets under bush. So you have hardcore Tea Partier who came in promising 100billion plus cuts. Here are the issues

- Budget Cuts Number (38 billion was accepted but republicans are trying to force democrates to meet then @ 80-100% which imo sounds like communist. )
- Title 10 ( Republicans want to cut Adult Parenthood? which helps lower income women access health care, such as cancer check ups etc/ Keep in mind ABORTION is not part of this title so I don't see why it keeps getting brought up)

These are the only two issues left standing. To sum it up. A number has been agreed upon but Republicans want to cut programs that will help less fortunate kids go to college, etc.
-Title 10
I think the number Dems are looking at is 33 billion. The Repubs passed a bill in the House yesterday, that does that in addition to making military pay guaranteed for the rest of the year, but it also cuts Title 10, which was the only way Tea Party'ers would get on board. So even if the Senate amends the Bill to exclude the Title 10 cut, the Bill has to go back to the House for ratification. So the government is most likely going to shut down unless the Tea Party guys concede the Title 10 cut or Dems allow it.

On the real, cutting 33-38 billion from our budget is laughable. That's like eating one piece out of a 16 piece pizza.

- so i can't get my dl renewed if the gov shuts down?
- does that mean that cops can't bust me for anything?
- can i start a war and the u.s. won't be able to do anything about it?
The Federal government will shut down. State and local governments operate on their own budgets.

During a government shut down, all non-essential employees are sent home while essential employees are kept on. None are paid.

That should answer all of your questions.

EDIT: In addition to federal employees, employees that are under Federal contract will go home too. Like IT services, construction contractors, etc.

Yes, if the Post Office were open. You could rob it.

Though I'm sure the FBI will keep several "essential" employees on in case you decide to go on a multi state kill-spree. The same thing with Homeland Security, CIA, NSA, etc:D

Well, no one gets paid. (except Congress) So from a payment standpoint the government is shut down.

If you live in DC, you're pretty much fucked.

Putting us through radiation scanners and sticking hands down our pants isn't an essential service. They should kill Gestapo Homeland Security and its buddy organizations.

It's funny, we'll be shutting down important research at USDA facilities, but we'll allow the hitler youth to touch our children without a thought.

Naw Government employees like the prez etc get payed they are trying to pass a bill so they don't :seven:

Here is what happens if Govt Shut downs

- Delayed Visa /Passport
- No Troop Pay ( although they are tryiing to change that)
- Closing of National PArks and employees (they make about 32mil a day so thats huge and it affects neighboring towns as they would see a HUGE decrease in income from foreigners
etc)
- No Air traffic control ( I think)
- No Tax returns , Governemnt Loans , etc

Pork barreling is a tactic uses by everyone in government, and even in different ways. You make some legitimate claims for where we need to make some serious rethinking of cuts. Then you pick out a few items that have next to zero budget impact but are pet issues for religious or so-called moral reasons and hide them in there.

It's enough to make you want to hijack a plane at Ron Reagan airport and...

I suppose that defines a mass movement.

There's a lot of other things that don't happen either. No mail, no court, no research at government facilities. Add on the businesses that depend on the government and you've merely scratched the service of things that stop.

The only government employees that get paid during a government shut down are the President and Congress. Other than that, no one else gets paid. Essential employees work, but are not paid. Non-essential employees are furloughed (sent home until the government is not shut down). I know this because my mom is a VA nurse.

When you think about it, they should just shut down CONgress. We don't need a CONgress anymore. It's not like they do anything important anyway, besides rent seek for their own interests. CONgress does not even partake in two of the most important issues in government -- the issuance of our own currency and taking us to war. The President and Federal Reserve bypass whatever our elected officials say, so there's no point. Have Obummer become a dictator and let the fascist banking casino state arise once and for all.

I only got my B game ready for today, but I can work on it.

So you know why there will never be an obese president? Because they'd be winded after the first 2 minutes of any presidential race.

Yeah... I'm here all week. :shifty: Don't forget to tip the waitresses.
