Yet another speeding ticket.
In the us do you get banned if you get caught too much or is it just fines?

In the uk you get 12 points available on your licence, every time you get caught speeding you get three points and a fine...when you hit the 12 you get banned from driving! In the first three years after passing you are only allowed 6 points!

In the US if you collect enough points, you will lose your insurance and/or your license will be suspended.

I had a friend whose brother lived in rural North Carolina, but he had to come out to San Francisco for a year because it was illegal for him to drive a car. (So he could rely on the public transit here.)

It varies from state to state. In Pennsylvania, if you're under 18, you get your license taken away if you get six or more points. For instance, I just got a 55 in a 45, which is two points. If you're over 18, I don't think a suspension exists except if you get caught for going 25mph over the speed limit. Also, the state takes way three points each year if you have a safe driving record.

I think I have four points on my record now, as I got a ticket in November. So I have reached my quota for another year. Now I have to drive "safely."

You get 12 points in the US as well. 6 on a provisional license. Going over on each means an immediate suspension of the license. Driving on suspended carries a jail sentence.
