We started learning it in 5th grade so that's like 7 years ago.But mine was pretty bad 3.5 years ago.

I guess internet helped me a lot.
there's obvioulsy much more emphisis placed on learning a language in mainland europe thten there is in britain, I learn french but only beause I chose to, and I doubt I could have a fluent conversation like you can in english

Comes back to British arrogance. Leave it for others to learn our language, rather than bothering to learn their's.

I can just about understand a few languages, but I couldn't come close to holding a conversation in any of them.

You can't really blame school for that.We learn it in school but still 90% of people in my class can't write 5 words.Unlike them,I've been reading a lot on internet etc. Two things helped me actually.Internet and world of warcraft.I used to play it a lot and I had to write in English so it came out good in the end I guess.But if you just have a few classes in week I really doubt your French can be fluent.

at least you have the paper to get a new car at 19, i had my parents toyota corolla from 1995. it was a great car though
