This will just further the problem in Kashmir.
Call me naïve here, but this doesn't seem like one of your "run of the mill" we-want-Kashmir attacks of old. This is different, IMO.

If the Islamic Extremists were smart, they would hit the US right now without a doubt.
I'll be a Seven here and say it's actually a terrible time. People are on high alert now. Terror doesn't work when it's expected.

Some group called Deccan Mujahedeen... Haven't heard of them before... These days the trend is to add Mujahedeen to some other word and form a new group for every terror attack...
You have to give it a few days. "Deccan Mujahedeen"? Chances are that we'll find out that's bogus in a couple of days.

what are the motives behind this attack
If someone can better enlighten me about the Indian political cycle right now, my first question is to ask when the BJP is next up for a window of political opportunity.

People may expect it, but the high risk reward right now is through the roof, Greg. It's like the terrorists have a possible 100% return on their portfolios.
Actually, I would think the risk is pretty high right now, hurting any risk/reward ratio. And terrorism works best not on top of more recent events... they seem to be smart enough not to fatigue people that closely. It's only when people settle back and let their guard down a little do they seem to strike next.

Meanwhile, I just learned that the sister of a former co-worker, who has lived in Mumbai for the past few years, was involved in that mess. (A native of Delhi, he gave me his mom's mobile number when I was in Delhi, as she's a physician there.) His sister and her husband were taken hostage in one of the hotels, but fortunately were released.

I'm not one to be easily bothered by terrorist attacks... but this one has gripped me... Bomb blasts happen and you get to know the damage it has done in a few hours... with this one, they have used a different strategy... some mofo thought blowing up places weren't enough, so we'll go on a shooting spree, which will go on for hours and spread even more fear... the number of dead might be lesser than that of a bomb blast, but the chaos its causing will be unparalled...
well nobody is until they hit close to home, wouldn't you say so?

1 - I agree...there has been quite a bit of Hindu/Muslim/Christian violence going on in small pockets, someone has decide to take advantage of those hostilities in a very big way...Kashmir will always be the rallying cry to get Muslims charged up, but it doesn't have much to do with it

2 - Sounds bogus already IMO
