Just got back from getting my mom's car and my car state inspected at the shop. Took about four fucking hours. Every single year everybody has to get their car inspected by law in the stupid state of Pennsylvania. Fuck you PA. Fuck you.
That's true in a lot of places. It was in Maryland when I lived there. In California, we only have biannual smog, and not safety, checks.
On one level, I agree with these things on principle: driving is a privilege, not a right, and if you're causing potential harm or danger to yourself or others, car inspections are founded on the same goals as airline inspections.
But the way they're executed is what bugs me. Too many opportunities for scam industries and rubber-stamping for the right fee.
