Welcome back boss, none much. Getting reading for first day of uni tomorrow.
How was Michigan? I truly miss it!
Thanks, main. Early start to the semester, eh?

Michigan was basically the same as I've always known it. Neighborhoods still the same, nightlife still rocking at some joints in and out of the city, and still a slow decline in the standard of living in the city. To be honest, Detroit looks about the same as it did five years ago. And no, I didn't see any crime, just a lot of dumb people walking in the street to avoid the sidewalk ice and plenty moronic drivers. From my annual trips to the D for a few weeks out of the year, I still haven't personally witnessed much crime.

New Years Eve we went to the Wings game and hit up a few bars downtown. That is always a good time, especially the drunken rides back after the game in one of the shuttles from the bars. The driver is always a funny fucker and there always seems to be a couple drunk 35/40 year-old females in the back of the bus that are interesting to talk to. Overall, a good night of fun, apart from the Wings losing in OT. I wanted to see a shootout.

Too early for school, I don't know what were they thinking! Anyway, I had an amazing break, and went on a road trip to Ottawa and Montreal with friends! Good times.

Sounds like you had plenty of fun. It's always good times around the Joe.
So, no dramtic changes in the state of Michigan. Plenty of my relatives have moved out of there already, the latest is my cousin, who moved to Washington six months after getting his degree since he coundn't find a job there. I wonder if Rick snyder would be able to the State back on its feet again, I am sure he would do a better job than Granholm, but how better, who knows! Regarding the D, we keep hearing how things have changed and things are on the right track, but apparently it's still the same old shit! You can still though have plenty of fun around the Joe, Royal Oaks, Birmingham city and etc.

Things haven't changed at all and I seriously laugh at the new governor claiming he will restore the Michigan economy. Much of their economy is based on the macro health of the nation, including the autos, and none of that has improved whatsoever, so I think another GM bankruptcy is in the mix down the line. People need to start facing facts and realize this nation is in an economic depression, and it was predictable with looking at how the rest of the nation faced a housing bubble while Detroit has slowly declined for decades.

I've read some recent publications saying that Detroit is one of the better places to start a business. Inc. Magazine had a pretty good article in last months issue.

I could see that, depending on the type of business. You don't have much competition but plenty of available workers. Not entirely sure about the tax factor though.
It was an article written on two businesses. They both bought cheap run down office space, refurbished it, used one floor for their business and then rented out the rest of the space. They hired locally and involved the local business bureaus. I can't remember what they did but it was the process that was memorable.

Plenty of those workers, but they aren't gonna last forever. People are moving out there quickly and in numbers. The Goverment is probably ready for bailout 2.0 for GM. Can they afford if the auto indusrty is completely screwed?

Edit: My bad, the Auto industry is already screwed.
