Just watched an interesting debate* on universities in the Arab world. Some interesting statistics there, about how little we spend on academic research, especially compared to Israel that spends more than all the Arab countries combined.

*Debate in the Arab world means a slinging match where everbody shouts and swears to get his point across

One of the points they talked about in that debate, we spend loads of money on tall sparkling buildings and big spacious malls, but when it comes to education and research, nay.

And look how much we spend on education here. Yet the majority of our high school students couldn't even tell me what a recession is.

You can't spend your way to prosperity, whether it be solving an economic crisis or trying to get kids to learn.

Ya well of course spending money alone isn't enough of course, still spending on education is a necessary though not sufficient condition for the success of education.
