I bet more people in Canada would be interested in Champions league football than curling, but those people in control has their priorities messed up. Champions league should generate more money than curling in Canada in term of sponsers, so what is the reason behind that. One thing, ignorance.

In curling there are usually 3 or 4 people sweeping after the rock is curled.

I bet they've done their research and the Winter Olympics will get more viewers.

Champions league games won't take that much time. Overall the olympics will generate more money for them, but it won't do much damage if they showed a couple of games. Canadians love football, and many watch the game. Euro 2008 bars would always be busy. A lot of 1st and 2nd generation immigrants who consider football as number one sport.
