I didn't know cats were that old. How long do they live?
I think generally 14-16 years. anyway I will copy my facebook status here it's long winded but if anyone's interested. I am just feeling shit atm.

"a few years ago my cousin found bruises on my grandfather's head while he was hospitalised in SJMC. turns out my grandpa fell in the hospital, and the family was not notified. as a result from the fall, my grandpa suffered brain damage and eventually passed. Today, when my cat Sox returned from her grooming appointment at Kitten Cottage TTDI, her left hind leg was dislocated and she was walking on three legs instead of four. I was furious, shocked, terrified... and immediately drove her to the 24-hour Animal Medical Centre. they suspect she has a dislocated knee, as well as a probable chronic kidney problem due to her age (she is 18 cat years old which is equivalent to 89 human years) - Sox had to be hospitalised, given painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication, and will probably undergo anaesthesia tomorrow for her x-ray, something that may result in complication due to her age.

when I called Kitten Cottage to ask about what the hell had happened, they informed me that when I sent Sox in the afternoon, she was already limping. They told me "she had been under a lot of stress with all the grooming etc" and that I should just leave her to "recuperate and recover herself." I am glad I did not take their word for it and sent her to the hospital instead.

First of all, I last saw Sox walking normally at 7am this morning. I woke up at 11, picked her up whilst she was asleep and put her in the cage for her grooming (my previous post is proof of this.) I was not able to see her leg, nor her walk. For all I know, she might've had a rough jump some time in between and dislocated her knee. But what I do NOT understand is that when Sox returned it was blatantly obvious she could not walk and her leg was JUTTING OUT (dislocated.) I am certain this is very apparent when she was let out of her cage at Kitten Cottage (when I picked her up they even said her ingrown nails resulted in her 'not being able to walk properly', which I thought was odd but let the comment slide.) I don't expect groomers to be vets but shouldn't they at least be able to tell if something is wrong with the cat or their anatomy?? The mere idea that Sox was already in so much pain and THEN had to undergo all the grooming process, and I was not bloody notified by Kitten Cottage about her limping condition etc., just sickens me. at the very least don't they have any principles not to groom cats who can't walk?? wouldn't that be common sense, or at least ask their owners before proceeding??

Going back to the story about my grandpa earlier, it may not be apple to apple, but in both stories I have a lot of anger and resentment with the other party and their lack of responsibility. I asked my mother how she dealt with my grandpa's situation and she said, "one big round of non stop crying, all the time, until eventually... I accepted it." I am now at the crying stage - probably guilt for sending her to begin with (I thought it was for her own good), guilt for not spending more time with her, and when I returned to the house and my room today and she was not there, I felt truly, truly empty, and like a part of me had just died. And maybe it's the sudden realisation that I might, one day, lose her, because she is getting very old.

Sox, I hope to pick you up tomorrow with good news from the Doc. Get well soon."

Hey, new hip replacements don't come cheaply.

just had a really rough day. my 18 year old cat is now hospitalised with a dislocated knee and probably some kidney disease due to her age. long story.

I am absolutely shattered - none of my mates seem to understand how strong a bond can be between a pet and the owner!!
Really sorry to hear that, sallyinzaghi. I can't say I've ever been that attached to a pet myself, but my mother has constantly.

da sheik is in kodai!!! make sure you go to mannavannur and poopparai villages around kodai. had a crazy dose of shrooms there, i saw hills moving man. colourful forests, high contrasts, fire in flowers.

the best shroom serving i had was with honey. tiny shrooms with high psilocybin concentration in honey. goddamn
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Why didn't I see this when I was there??? The shrooms we got there were bad cos it hadn't rained there(Vattakanal, not Kodai) for weeks. I had about 16 of em dipped in honey, and I couldn't feel a thing. I had such high hopes.

Hope she makes it through a few more years :) People who don't have pets always consider 'the bond' as something that will pass by. I've spend a good part of my life trying to explain it, now I've just given up.

Out of curiosity @Hustini, you believe vaccinations cause autism?
