Give it time. You're going to make some throwaway friends at first and it will take a little while for something meaningful. But the good news is that it will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life.

Brits are a bunch of Casanovas, I swear.
Yeah, I mean I have friends in the UK already but none in the area I'm going to be living, whenever I went there I never seemed to hit it off with anyone I would meet. I guess that could change when I'm there permanently though.

You'd not guess by how much I talk here but I'm actually fairly shy when meeting new people, so it's always a bit of a fear when going somewhere I don't really know anyone.

A shame he's engaged then.
He's been quite the British playboy most of his life: driving convertible Mercedes around, skiing in the Swiss Alps a lot, etc. The guy is a bit of a ringer for Davy Jones of the Monkees (well, the young Davy Jones -- and when he was alive).

His fiancee is no slouch, however: she's a nuclear physicist and they plan to live in Zurich together.

Perhaps his biggest claim to fame is that he worked in the same collaboration software group as Tim Berners-Lee at CERN. There were two groups: he worked on the CERNDOC group, and the other group was Tim's and their project ultimately became known as the World Wide Web. But he's not bitter. :p

You don't need tons of friends -- just a few good ones you can relate to. You might even connect with some American expats for that matter.

Repost from a wrong thread:

So I went to my local electronics shop to buy a laptop this monday, it was sold out so I placed a reservation. All week theyve been getting my model and no phonecall, so I get an apologetic call from an english guy who works there, explaining he went and got one for me himself. This was the note he pinned to it while I was going to the store

I laughed so loud at the store when he handed me the package ( :klin: ) with a terribly tired face on.

Yeah, was pretty cool :D. Haven't heard from you in a while, how's it hanging?

P.S. I can't explain how much I missed owning a PC, might go ahead and sell my iMac now.

I'm better now. It has changed me, that's for sure, but the worst part is definitely over and I'm back to enjoying life more!

Oh, I hear you on the PC/Mac-thing. It's a matter of taste, obviously, but I bought a Macbook Pro a couple of years ago and I've never been more frustrated with a product. I just hate OSX, it's a pain in the ass! Way too 'user-friendly' for my taste. But then again, I've been using PC's all my life, so perhaps I just got into the Mac-thing way too late.

But yeah, just go ahead and sell that piece of junk :D

Glad to hear it that you're doing better my man  .

I haven't been mixing since I made the mistake of upgrading to Mountain Goat which made PT8 go insane with compatibility issues.

He's trying too hard to be something that's for sure.

I can't tell if he's an Everton fan that's just clueless about everything outside of England, an Everton fan that's a troll, an Inter fan posing as an Everton fan that's a troll, or just a troll. I'm leaning towards one of the troll options, because even the most blinkered PL fans I've met aren't that annoying or clueless. It's like he took everything stereotypical about an English football supporter & multiplied it by 1000.

I tried to give him some advice earlier, but it was probably a waste of my time.

For once, could people on this forum just be straight forward - I'm so confused at the moment. I was actually thinking that dude was trying too hard to act like Burke.
I found tickets for D1 - with our supporters :weee:

Perhaps the best opening to a thread I've seen in this place.
