I love to travel, and I frequently do so, but flying is one of my irrational fears.

The irrational part is what didn't make sense to my ears, considering your posting and opinions in general . Do you have any other irrational fears ? I'm asking because I have the same thing with heights, when I'm up on a cliff somewhere I can't force myself to look over the edge. Shaking knee's, sweat - panic attack in short..

I have a weird thing about icebergs, funnily enough, or any other large objects in water. Seeing them doesn't bother me, but the idea of being in the ocean next to an iceberg or an oil tanker scares the piss out of me. Otherwise, I do have OCD which often manifests as irrational fears of certain things, but most of the time that's under control.
