I never even bother with cough syrup. It does absolutely nothing in my opinion.

Not the dosage, but the means of taking medicine. I had trouble swallowing pills cos they were so big. So my mom used to crush them, mix it with honey, and make me slurp it down. I was so proud the day I could swallow it normally.
