I am not a christian, I am not stupid - I do not want to be associated with it.

I don't need to buy people things to prove i love them, I don't feel comfortable having a day in which we celebrate western glutony whilst millions around the world starve, I dont like people digging themselves deeper into debt to pay for this 'celebration'.

If today was a day where everyone goes out and cleans up some rubbish from the sides of roads, cleans up local parks, spends time with the elderly etc. etc. as part of an ongoing commitment to being a productive person forever I would fucking love today, today would be the happiest day of my life. But it isnt, it is a cynical day that celebrates everything that is false about humanity and I fucking despise it.

Seriously. I have Hindu coworkers who say Merry Christmas to each other.

I think the only thing you're proving, Jasper, is that you're a wet blanket and you're so self-centered as to think everything is personally about you. And I mean that in a constructive way.

I don't want to be associated with anything to do with the it, I don't want people to think that I am. The equivilant of what someone is say to me is 'I hope you enjoy the day where waste, greed & ignoranccee is celebrated'.

I couldn't give a fuck if other people are too stupid to see that this is all it is about - spend spend spend.

The teachings of jesus in the new testemant are more in line with what I have suggested for the day than what happens.

Every single bullshit argument anyone can put up defending christmas I can destroy really easily.

If you guys feel comfortable celebrating humanity at its worst, then go for it...it wont change that I get offended being associated with it.

And Swag one of my friends from Ahmedabad who adheres to one of the hindu doctrines sent me a message on facebook this morning saying happy christmas...i told him to fuck off.

Go fuck yourself, I spent this afternoon in a soup kitchen in tunbridge wells because i felt so fucking awful. I want to work for a humanitarian NGO raising awareness and doing sustainabe charitable work after I finish my MA and you want to call me self centred?

You accroding to your location live in Bolivia...not the UK, you don't see what happens here over christmas. The sheer ludricrous ammounts of money that gets wasted on a day. The environmental impications of that day, the cynical ideologies that surround that day etc. etc.

I didn't get anything either but some families in africa got some goats.

This world is suffering more than enough over people who are intentionally being hurt. To choose to take insult where none was intended is really an affront to those who are truly suffering in the world.

How about the part in your post earlier were some friend said merry christmas to you and you tell him to fuck off? Why would you do that? To stroke your own little ego because you're being oh so much more socially conscious than the rest of the peasants? I did what I would do to any friend of mine who got semi-hysterical over something pointless and non-sensical. I'd hold up a mirror to show how their actions are being perceived in context. (Hence my "constructive" comment.)

I'd slap you if I could, btw. Not necessarily to hurt you, but to make you snap out of it. You're being a bit too much like a 15-year-old gone Goth on this topic, and you are more than better than that. There are much better ways to compensate for the shallowness and consumerism of humanity than to take offense over well-intended greetings from others who extend those graces to you.
