No band is truly unique. Most find a signature sound, style, or mantra and go with it. That whole era of music is pretty amazing especially when you compare to the utter shit that is the pop music of our current time.
On a slightly related note, I once saw John Paul Jones play upright base with the Mutual Admiration Society contemp blue grass jam band. It was pretty sick.
I don't not like the Rolling Stones but they were no way near as creative or progressive as the Beatles. They kept it simple and after a few decades you begin to repeat yourself. Songs like Wild Horses and Angie are so simple and similar its a joke. Basic chord progressions anyone could play and everyone does play. Its funny that you just go 'fuck the Beatles' because all Stones fans diss the Beatles. They're immediately defensive that the Beatles were just much more ground breaking than the Stones were which is undeniable.
I was hoping you would say something that stupid, because i do get an enormous ammount of pleasure out of being a pedant (you will not win this).
I have played guitar for 11 years (including a distinction at the highest grade level), I studied music at school for 8 years and my opinions are based on extensive reading and I can fully support any assertation I make.
If you want to have this out, make a thread in the music thread and when im done with my uni reading in a couple of hours I will happily sit there for hours ripping into you. Or we can pretend you didn't say something that stupid and forget this started.
