My head is still stuck on the Drive-By Truckers show I saw at the SF's Fillmore last night. Two hours of music, followed by a whole hour of encores. It was brilliant. One of the best live shows I've seen in all my life.
And the crowd was a bit of everything -- hipsters in skinny jeans and trucker caps to full-on white-beard cowboys in vests, hat, and boots. That show had some of the longest beards I've seen at any show ever. It was like a ZZ Top convention. And guys there were talking about Mike Cooley being the best songwriter since Johnny Cash. As if Patterson Hood is anything to sneeze at.
In any case, it's not unjustified that AMG calls them America's smartest and best hard rock band for several years now.

The last live show I saw in SF was in a jazz club.
My mate wanted to get a picture of the sax player, but over balanced on his chair and fell flat on his back.
The club went silent until myself, and the other two guys I was with wet ourselves laughing.
There is a, now legendary picture, of the guy mid-fall, where only his foot in mid-air is captured.
Great times.
