Oh, well alot of people consider Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to be the most influential(on the formation of popular musical styles in general) single album ever recorded.

And that song in particular is singled out for combining so many new elements which had never been used in popular music before. The Beatles really were musical geniuses.

Surely some of the 1950s tunes that influenced The Beatles would be more influential, since they started the whole thing?

Or is it the stuff that influenced the 1950s rock 'n' roll?

Fair enough.

I'm just not big on labelling things the greatest or most influential or whatever, because it tends to be so subjective.
