Indeed, just look at this

not that impressive. just some good double pedal work. he barely even uses any of the kit besides the kicks, snare and cymbals.

All the musicians in Tool are amazing. They even have some parts in songs where the guitar and drums are playing in different time signatures. And barely any of the songs are 4/4 :p

Meh, he's as good as Lopez but not really in the top category imo. Hoglan, Haake, Carey, Dailor etc are what I aim for :p
Yea, but technical mastery is not all that matters. Gavin is super creative and his feel for some of the songs is amazing. It's impossible to compare them to Haake and everyone else up there, but Gavin deserves some recognition.

BTW, I'm surprised Mike Portnoy hasn't been mentioned yet. :D

    gtfo

You say "nothing special" to Bleed and go on to praise Tool for using different time signatures. Bleed is so messed up I can't even work out wtf they are playing.

Lars Ulrich is the greatest drummer ever.

Did you even watch from 1:05 onwards? I've never heard such good sounding drumming in my life. So musical.

Yea, calling Haake's drumming on Bleed as nothing special is harsh. The double-bass bursts are insane. Plus most of the time, the bass time sig. is very different from what he's playing on the tom/snare/all the stuff up top. It's pretty insane.

BTW, here's one of the most technical songs I've ever heard. Portnoy is amazing on this one! :delpiero:

I explained all that by using the term polyrythms, but Testament fan doesn't know what it means. Oh, and look how effortlessly he played the entire song. I put more effort into fapping.

Portnoy is awesome but I hate him with a passion - stopped listening to his music after the entire A7X thing and his emo letters.

You don't say, look at him trying to school me on metallica. Go learn, then come back - punk. :p
All Nightmare Long was inspired by Enter Sandman. I actually did know it and it came into my head one day a while ago whilst playing guitar.

That drumming seems so boring though. It's just some crazy kick drumming and not much else. Danny Carey makes the drum kit come alive and is probably the most innovative drummer ever.

Tool has more polyrhythms than they have good songs (all of them).

    Meshuggah is gay.

Wrong. If you ask me nicely, I'll tell you :p

It seems boring because it's just the drums, everything else is muted out and there's no production on them. I love Carey, he's a superb drummer - but you can't say Bleed isn't anything special. Tempo changes in his kicks, the fills, polyrythms all over. It might be because you haven't listened to enough technical metal to appreciate it, idk..

    "Tool has polyrythms"

I just imagined a cat saying it "I HAZ POLYRYTHMS". you have no idea what it is xD. Carey rarely uses polyrythms, since Tools music is far more organic than Meshuggah.

    Hounds of Tindalos

polyrhythms (not rythm) are 2 more rhythms playing at the same time. or something along those lines. no I didn't google that one.
