For some odd reason, I got into a recent rut of listening to a lot of the back catalog of the Drive-By Truckers.
I've always been a fan of the alt-country stuff of the likes of Uncle Tupelo and Whiskeytown -- that punk rock edge mixed with the roots country of Johnny Cash coolness. But the Drive-By Truckers even throw in an element of Lynyrd Skynyrd swamp rock that works for them... largely because they write pretty good songs to begin with. But also because they're pretty self-aware and in on their own joke about the Southern sterotypes...
Makes me wanna put on a mesh trucker hat, roll up a pack of smokes in my sleeve, drink some bad diner coffee, and beat up a few of them thar media elite liberals...
