The run he made for the first goal for example, he wants to be proactive and moving into space, that space doesn't appear against a defensive team as much. Playing a 5 yard square pass doesn't get him the assist for Vlahovic, it's the positivity to want to make the run that does it.

That first half showed why he works well in a less defined role between midfield and attack, where he gets up and supports a striker. It worked really well for our first goal. You also saw why he doesn't work as well as a centre mid where he was caught sleeping on Mkhitaryan's goal. Fortunately Motta's system should play to his strengths and away from the weaknesses.
