Weston McKennie:
"When we score the first goal, it seems like we relax. The coach always tells us in the locker room at halftime to keep playing and attacking to score the second goal. We need to do better in this aspect to improve."

Weston McKennie’s Words to Sky After Juventus-PSV

GOAL –
"A beautiful goal, maybe even better than the one against Barcelona in 2020. But what luck… (laughs). However, for me, it’s not about scoring goals or providing assists—what matters is winning and getting points."
A DIFFERENT MATCH FROM SEPTEMBER –
"It was so important. We’re at a big club, and you have to know how to play against a team like this—you have to run, make tackles to win, and leave everything on the field. Gatti also had a great game by pressing high, and my friend Weah ran a lot too..."
AT THE MOMENT OF THE SHOT –
"I was calm. I’ve scored a lot in training. Today, I stayed composed and thought, at worst, I’d just hit someone inside the box (laughs). I was lucky. I’ve been scoring in training, but it doesn’t always happen like that in matches."
HOW TO IMPROVE AFTER CONCEDING GOALS –
"In training, in the locker room, in matches—we often relax after scoring. But we keep reminding ourselves not to change our game, to push forward, press, and go for the second goal instead of waiting for something bad to happen. It was important to keep playing—we need to improve in this aspect."

Nothing against Mckennie or Weah, they've been great but two Americans being among the best players at the club shows where the club is at. This is not a big team with big players. Makes it easier for players from mediocre NT's like US to make a career out of playing at a big-ish team.

A JJ competing for titles definitely won't have Mckennie and Weah as starters. Definitely won't have Gatti's/Kelly's and your Locatelli's as starters either.

The US NT is better than Chile or Switzerland for example, and we had no problem when Vidal or Lichtsteiner were key players for us.

Chile was a top 7-8 NT in the world at the time and won back to back copa America's.

Switzerland have always been a competitive European NT. Always there and thereabouts qualifying for world cups, making knockouts as well. They do far better than so called 'giants' such as Shitaly.

US struggles to beat teams like Panama in their own backyard.

It's not the same comparison.

US players play for teams that don't compete for trophies/play at an elite level.

It's easy for Mckennie's and Weah's to find space in a poor JJ team.

Meh, we've had worse players than Weston and Timmy play for us just because they're Italian.

Would you turn down Kvar...that Georgian dude, cuz he's from Georgia?

Sorry, your post doesn't really resonate. Pulisic is one of, if not the best player in Serie A currently. In European competition, players from Wales, Poland, Ukraine, and Austria are on the list of players with the most CL appearances and titles. Are you saying you wouldn't want Lewandowski or Alaba because they're from mediocre NT's?

Why is Pulisic playing for an average Milan team and not Bayern Munich?

Why is Mckennie playing for a poor JJ team and not Real Madrid?

It's just not the NT which is mediocre as it is, but there is a stark difference in the calibre of players too.

Players like Kvara, Lewandowski, Alaba etc were proven top talents which prompted top clubs to sign them.

Do you think big teams will be queuing up to sign Mckennie or Weah?

Maybe Pulisic is the closest The US have come in producing a WC player but he's not there yet, is 26 and already flopped at a big club before.

Come back to me when an American player becomes a protagonist at a CL winning team.

Pulisic won the Champions League.

Buffon never did.

That's it. That's the post.

Isn't this sort of the opposite of the original post though, that now it's the player rather than the nationality?

Can’t think of two Italians I would pick over Pulisic and McKennie. Maybe Donnaruma but that’s it.

I’n not sure what your point is. If you want to meekly recognize Weston is one of the club’s best and most consistent players for multiple szns and at the same time not fully believe it by adding a veritable “but” instead still not fully acknowledge that he and Pulisic are two of the top players in Serie A then you’re still not there yet m8. Pulisic was a bust at Chelsea? So they are a top club? Name a player there in the last 4 szns that has thrived and is considered a top player.
Then pls ask yourself the Why are Yildiz and Bremer playing for Jj? You seem to be implying that Jj is not a “big club”. then let’s keep that as a constant for all discussions. Not just this particular one.
