Remember the excuses we had last Summer? The bad CL run screwed us. Next year we'll learn from our mistakes. There's only much Marotta can do. We're waiting for the Adidas money. It's best to save the money for next Summer when we really need it.

After that, our first move after the winter mercato opened, is $#@!ing Sneijder.

By next Summer, our roster will look something like this:

- Buffon : 36 years old
- Barzagli : 34 years old
- Chiellini : 31 years old
- Lichtsteiner : 30 years old (31 in January)
- Evra : 34 years old
- Pirlo : 36 years old
- Tevez : 30 years old
- Sneijder : 31 years old :)touched:)

So in the next Summer transfer window, we'll need to replace a minimum of 4 of those (Barzagli, Lichtsteiner, Pirlo, Tevez).

To summarize, we screwed ourselves last Summer when we went for depth instead of replacing our old guard.
Well the only players we'll really miss from that bunch are Pirlo, Tevez & Buffon really... And since they're staying for at least 1 more year, we have a minimum of 3 more transfer windows to replace them (excluding this one).

We're already without Barzagli, Chiellini will stay for many years and the same goes for Lichtsteiner. Evra is barely half decent now, so I'd say good riddance in over a year and Sneijder isn't even here yet.
To start creating problems that aren't nowhere near upcoming is just pessimistic.

basically i think we have to stop playing with two strikers, if sneijder comes. but as you guys suggest we need wingers, and that wont happen as we would need like three of them, backup is also needed. and three quality players? even if we would have the money, who could be available? that just doesnt work

I don't like Lichtsteiner as much as you all do. We should have someone who can actually put on a decent cross if we want to continue with the 4-3-1-2.

Pirlo and Evra depend on where we see Asamoah's future. My guess would be a LB, so we need another CM (or maybe 2 if Pogba leaves).

Sneijder will come.

Soooo Sneijder huh? This should be interesting.

Would be hilarious if he was signed before the Inter game, started and scored the winning goal

I just don't see him as a motivated player. That is my biggest worry.
:agree:

If a player of his calibre moves to Turkey at the age of 28 something's definitely wrong. I reckon he'd be useful, but definitely not the kind of player we should be looking at.

Nobody wanted him from Europe because of his high annual salary. That was the first reason why Moratti get rid of him.Only Galatasary accepts his vages .Actually they don't pay him now.

Some of you are fucking deluded. The guy has been shit for a while now. Do you simply expect him to turn into the WC player of days gone by simply because he has a Juventus jersey on? :howler:

He might. There's no real physical reason why he couldn't. His case is nothing like Fernando Torres for example, who has simply never been fully fit and has therefore consistently failed to reach his former level (I honestly hope Atletico let the guy REST for a while). Sneijder is fully fit and has shown occasional glimpses of his former magic.

I am not a fan however. I have never really liked him and I think that perhaps he was just lucky from 2009 till 2011. Perhaps he just never was that good. But age and fitness are definitely not holding him back, so in all honesty it's a bet you could take.

I still hold firm in my believe that we didn't really do much wrong in the summer. We probably overpaid for Pereyra a little bit, should have been more than 12/13 million than 16/17 million, and I'd have preferred some younger lefback option instead of Evra, but all in all it was okay. With Romulo you could, with some stretch, blame the injury on our coaching and fitness team, but never on Marotta. Had he not been injuried, he would've been a very useful signing, and would have made the rightback problem we're facing when Lichtsteiner needs replacement a lot easier. I still haven't given up on him completely.

Of Sneijder however, I'm far from convinced. Admitedly, I've never followed the Turkish League, so I could be in the wrong, but I'm not expecting much of him in terms of abilities and motivation.

In truth, we didn't really do much, whether it be right or wrong. It was a disappointing summer with mostly depth acquisitions. Even the players most people were excited by/about, namely Morata and Coman, have failed to shine due to lack of playing time or because they haven't adjusted/adapted yet.

Come on, man. We need to go 18 month back to find the last signing of a starting player.

Isolated you can defend any signing, but in the big picture we are yet to improve our static and predictable offense and we haven't added any 'younger' player to our line-up since Pogba. The rejuvenation have stalled and that's a problem and it can turn into a huge problem.

We can't be expected to sign five 25 players CL-players in one window, therefore we should continuously add the needed quality to at least deliver a respectable challenge in Europe. For every opportunity and window we miss the big guys get further ahead.

From my point of view, we added two things last summer: Depth and youth. Morata, Coman, Pereyra are all 23 or younger, and all have the potential to be useful players, or even starters for a couple of years.
The problem is that we are not really in a position to acquire a player who is both young and capable of being a starter, providing we don't hit any more of the Pobga gold. Which, if I might add, we're obviously trying as shown by the Coman deal.

Of course the summer mercato hasn't been as great as the previous three, which were outstanding (Tevez & Llorente for a combined 11 million, Pobga & Asamoah, Vidal & Pirlo), but it was decent. And I don't think much of treating the january window with the same regard as a fullfledged summer mercato. It's more of a little add-on.

I simply do not buy into that excuse. Of course we are able to find starters in the price range of 10 - 25 million euros. Other clubs at our level are able to find starters, so why can't we?

I think we are limited in our scouting department and we have trouble negotiating with soem clubs and the old "we prefer Serie A players"-excuse has soem truth to it. A conservative approach to the mercato seems to be Marotta's approach. It has given soem great players, but it is also keeping us from signing the unexpected.

Whether it's Ronaldo or Stendardo in the squad. I couldn't care less when we already have Chiellini, Bonucci, Caceres & Rugani who'll come back.
I second the Lichtsteiner thing, but we'll be developing towards a wing based formation very soon and we simply don't have the money to buy much better. Anyone who says otherwise is not being realistic.

Could we have done better? Yes, absolutely. But to say we had a miserable transfer window, or to even call cor Marotta's head goes way too far. Not really referring to you with the last part btw, I think your assessment is rather fair actually.

The broader picture can be criticised, but I find it hard to do so convincingly when basically every transfer of the summer makes sense in its own :D

We desperately needed backup at CM -> Pereyra, who can moreover deputise at AM and if need be winger as well
If we want to move to a back four (one of the strongest demands of the forum since ever btw), we need cover at the fullback positions -> Romulo & Evra

In both cases, details can certainly be criticised, for example the greatest mistake of Marotta in my books during the past few years was not signing Nainggolian, who, for roughly the same price, would've provided more quality than Pereyra. I'm not the biggest fan of Evra either, but on the other hand I fail to see any alternative affordable player who we could've gotten.

Morata now is a different case, which in my opinion actually disproves the mantra of Marotta always being too conservative. His acquisition was defenitely a risk. On the other hand, he's exactly the type of player Marotta's critics always wanted us to get: Young, talented, with worldclass potential. His buyback clause is cause for concern, but there's also enough reason to believe it's more a formality than anything else.

It wasn't a good mercato because considering the fact that we have half of our starting eleven on their thirties or more, we brought average players bar Morata and Coman without replacing any of them. In fact we added more with Evra. Needless to remind you about Morata's buy-back fiasco.

We have plenty of youth getting experience to take over for the old guard. Rugani & Berardi for starters. We own like a million goalies to take over for Buffon. Why is everyone forgetting the young players we have out there. Stuaro as well.

Plus Coman could easily become class (or flop if he doesn't get more time, but that's more down to Allegri than Marotta).
