Saw this somewhere, an Arsenal fan's lament:

Wenger was on Crack yesterday before the game against Spuds.

Wenger must have been Crack to play that team he played against Spuds in the first half. He almost cost us the game; he certainly cost us 2 points because we drew a game we should have won had he started with the team that had Van Persie and Pires from the beginning.

When he altered the team and changed shape and formation Spuds were chasing shadows and it was a pain in the neck we did not win the game because I wanted to beat those loud mouth to shut them up so they can find their level. At least they now know, they are not and will never be on the level as Arsenal. For all their big mouths, Arsenal are having the worst start to an EPL season while Spuds are having the best start ever, yet the difference is 3 points and Arsenal have a game in hand.

All the same Wenger yab yesterday nor be small.

1) Wenger was on crack to leave Pires, (the player who has scored against Spuds whenever he has played against them. In fact, Pires has scored in 5 consecutive seasons at White Hart Lane since he came to the EPL) on the bench in the first half.

2) Wenger was on crack to start with Bergkamp and Reyes despite the fact that we all know this combo has never worked and will never work. They have played over 15 games together and we all know it is not a striking partnership

3) Wenger was on crack to start with Gilberto and Flamini despite the fact that we all know this combo has never worked and will never work.

4) Wenger was on crack because he decided not to start with any strikers. Wenger himself has said Bergkamp and Reyes are shadow strikers. So why put Van Persie a genuine and gifted striker on the bench.

5) Wenger was on crack to hand the initiative to Spuds by starting with the team he started with.

A team is built on little partnerships. For example, the Pires and Henry partnership. The Bergkamp Henry partnership. In defence the Kolo and Sol partnership. Wenger has always teams in which there are partnerships that are almost telepathic. So why did Wenger play a team weakened because he had two partnership (Flamini and Gilberto plus Bergkamp and Reyes) team which have never worked?

With Flamin and Gilberto not playing together, we had to cope with the fact that we had no striker because Reyes and Bergkamp were running into each other positions. With the 4 players in the middle not playing, the flanks were nullified. It was frustrating watching the rubbish Wenger had served up in the first half.

I was listening on the radio and watching the game live on TV, all I could hear was how many English players Spuds had and how they were running the game. But these are average players at best. Give them space and like all average players they can play. The English Spuds players cannot create the space when closed down. Moreover, they cannot play in tight spaces because they lack the talent and technique.

When Arsenal decided to remove the out of sorts Flamini and bring in Pires with Cesc going into the middle, Spuds were done for. The second half was one-way traffic and the much-lauded English players were being out played because Arsenal squeezed the play and the Spuds player could not cope without space. They kept on giving away the ball and we really should have punished them more than we did.

The commentators to be fair gave Cesc his props and called him the outstanding young foreign talent in the EPL. Cesc especially was revelling in the occasion and he made Carrick and Jenas look ordinary. He showed them how to keep and pass a football even when closely marked.

When Van Persie came on, we should have won. He was outstanding and he made a difference. Wenger some contrived to put his form players (Pires and Van Persie) on the bench then altered the shape of the team for the worse. Sometimes these Coaches are just crazy. They somehow contrive to make the game more difficult than it should be. Too many coaching badges is not a good thing sometimes. I mean how can you explain Rafa Benitez playing an inform and top scorer Cisse on the wings whilst playing Crouch who has not scored all season as striker. As opposed to Bentez who lost that game, Wenger got a draw. All the same, Wenger costs us two points on the day.

Wenger was on crack eh? Very funny. It's amazing how many fans think that just because they can lead a team to victory in Football Manager (albeit with much cheating and re-loading of lost games) they are suddenly authorities on the real game. They are suddenly master-strategists and tacticians, and are always able to put their strongest teams on the pitch. Everyone knows that in Football Manager you can have 50 first team players, and keeping them all happy will be your major headache. However, in football management this is not always the case. No one knows what goes on in the mind of the manger before a game.

For instance, Reyes has himself often said that he enjoys playing upfront. So, Wenger continues to play him there is to give him time to fully acclamatise to the position. It was the same with Henry. In case all these persons with 512KB memories have forgotten, Wenger had to give Henry time to adjust to being played as a striker. He didn't turn into the terrorist he is today overnight.

Robin van Persie has shown that he's much better coming off the bench. He started the match against Sparta Prague and was largely anonymous, so Wenger probably decided that Robin would come on later and act as a super-sub.

Against Ajax in the Champions League, Flamini was brilliant. He's a very energetic player who never stops running. Wenger was counting on using that energy to stifle the Sp*rs midfield. That the lad had an off day was not Wenger's fault.

Fabregas has had some decent games in which he's played as an MR. Agreed, his natural position is as a CM, but Wenger had to shuffle his pack. Ljunberg was just returning from an injury, and was in need of a run-out, with the Champions League looming. He got one.

As for Pires scoring 8 goals in 10 games against Sp*rs, who says such a run goes on forever?

I hate reading this sort of rubbish. If you don't trust the manager anymore, find another club. Name another manager who could have done all that Wenger has done on the same budget. I will support Wenger's decisions until he's declared clinically insane.
