Totti. I mean he must be, for so many years the subject of speculation over a transfer to one of the big boys and he got used to being the center of attention. But now, Totti is 29, Cassano is 23 and it's the kid who got the big contract and the fancy white shirt. It's Cassano who will be mentioned in context of every big match, it's he who will score and it's he who will get the star label. Cassano IS the future, meanwhile Totti's future is fairly determined at this point. He will continue to be the god of As Roma, while his mouth waters at the prospect of playing for one of the giants.

Oh well, can't win em all..

a great performance at the world cup could do wonders for totti.im sure he would have won a lot more trophies and honours had he been at a more consistent club than roma.with zidane at the twilight of his career,i would'nt be surpirsed if madrid put a huge offer on the table for him after the world cup, provided that he has a great tournament - something that he is very capable of if he can control his temper.and lets face if,italy's performance at the world cup will depend a lot on how totti performs.he is the attacking nucleus of the side.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this one, Martin. I don't think Totti is all that pissed.

A couple thoughts about this deal:

1) Real Madrid has no clue as to what they just bitten off in recruiting Cassano. A person with his capabilities, that kind of self-image, and a tendency for throwing great tantrums risks being more of a liability than an asset to Real. Put him on the bench as much as Owen, and they'll end up trading him away within a year.

It is possible that Cassano, once away from the bad influence of Totti's captaincy, might mature more as a team player. But I don't expect it at a club where there's little discipline coming from the coaching staff down to the ego-centric players that litter their roster. The inmates run the asylum at Real Madrid.

Totti must know some of this.

2) Totti has made it rather evident that he'd prefer to be a big fish in the small pond of AS Roma than to strike out on his own at a bigger club elsewhere. Totti is a god in Rome, as a Roman, who arguably rivals if not exceeds the status of the Pope there. If Totti really wanted to prove himself in the world's top clubs, I think he would be there by now. Instead, I think he's comfortable staying in his provincial nest in Roma.

Totti probably has a bit of jealousy and envy over choices he's had that he has decided not to pursue, and Cassano reminds him of that. But he's made the bed he sleeps in. And he's there by choice.

1)Totti's girlfriend sees that Francesco is getting wet on the terrace and calls out to him: 'France, come inside, it's raining.' Totti: 'But it's raining out here as well'

2)Totti goes on holiday. On his return Cafu asks him: 'Where have you been?' Totti: 'I went water skiing'. Cafu: 'Did you have a good time?' Totti: 'Not at all... I didn't manage to find a lake that went downhill'

3)totti calls the airport and says ... hey ermm how long is the flight from rome to milan
operator ... just a second sir
totti says ... thanks a bunch , hangs up

4)totti and ilary are sitting together watching tv
and totti says , love u know .. iam a genius
