He hasn't signed for Chelsea. Inter Milan also were interested, but he turned down every offer because he wanted to finish school in Belgium. He's one of the best defenders around and probably the best 17 year-old, but also Timmy Simons of Club Bruges is interesting. Though he'll never ever become of a Juventus player. If Juve were to get Kompany, they'd win the CL eyes closed.

Kompany is really impressive. He's strong, good in the air and his positioning is great. He also possesses the great quality to remain calm at all times. Something Montero fails to do.

Kompany's one of the brightest prospects and if we don't get him, someone else will. And believe me, they'll be happy about it.

i jsut watched mexes in the match against celtic, and i was really impressed by his ability to take every single attack singlehandedly and come up tops.i mean,he used to carry the defence at auxerre, but to be able to carry a defence consisting of dellas, candela, chivu, panucci etc. is pretty amazing stuff for a 21 year old.

mexes was astounding.

you'll need 25 000.000 euro's if you want kompany, Anderlecht told the press they will normally reject any other offer
so i don't think juve will ever get him

Seven,

I like your exaggeration.;).
But I totally agree, I havent seen much of Kompany but on the occasions that I have seen him - What a talent! Big long legs, good footballing brain, and decent speed, and maturity beyond his age, he kind of reminds me of Nesta when the latter first broke through Lazio defence.

Mark 77,

Your list of CBs are great, but every year some players have break-through year so never buy a young promising star for the future IMO unless he is a real deal or ready to contribute. For that reason I would rule out Julien Rodriguez (I dont really rate him anyway :dontcare:), Kroldrup (One more good year in Udine will convince me), King and Juan off the list.
Out of the list, Andrade (Top 5 CB IMO but hasnt he joined Real yet?), Gallas, Cordova and Chivu are established top-not defender that we should persue and Kompany is a cant miss talent. Bonera, Milito, Marquez, Squillaci are interesting players that can contribute.

I guess we are not going to get Kompany, but I cant stop admire his talent. Few more experience, muscle, and polishing off, then he will surely develop into one of the finest defender in the world.
Only need Real in that list to spark all time bidding war and lets not underestimate Moratti, he hassome cheques to burn.:D

Maybe Gallas would be an option. I mean Chelsea have already bought Paulo Ferriera and Ricardo Cavarlho. Not to mention the well-established Terry and Johnson in the back as well. If not him, my choice would be Andrade. He is a class defender. But my heart's still set on Chivu. :)

Yeah, I was lucky enough to watch the match as well, and Mexes was brilliant. At 21 (or is it 22?) he's already a quality defender, so imagine what he's going to be when he has matured and developed. We have a Nesta-in-the-making on our hands imo. It's a massive pity that Moggi's such a fool.

I'd be overjoyed with Gallas, Andrade or Chivu, but unfortunately I can't see any of them wearing our black and white this season. I don't think Chelsea would be willing to sell the Frenchman, even if they've already signed Carvalho, while Roma tried to do everything within their power to stop us from getting Emerson and they would've succeeded had it not been for the player's desire to play for us. Andrade? He's been solid at club level and impressed me at Euro 2004, therefore we won't get him

Well ya never know. Maybe Moggi will surprise us with one of those signings. But I have a feeling that it will be Cannavaro after all.

if we really signed cannavaro, then our defence problem is almost solved....with legro and cannavaro in the central of defence, thuram on the right side, zambrotta on the left flanks...and buffon in between the goal post, our defence will once again be as tight as before, not like last season freaky defence..
