These south americans you mention are mercenaries who did it for their career, likes of direct ethnic players, even if 2nd or 3rd generation, is more understandable when they choose the country of their family.

That's what I mean, Ozil playing for Turkey would have not been surprising at all, especially considering how nationalistic Turks tend to be.

Wait, are people saying Ozil shouldn't be playing for Germany?
Nope, he should be. Just saying it wouldn't have been surprising either way in response to a posters comment.

Anyhow. What a treat this World Cup has been. Probably the best in a looong time. Definitely better than the last 3.

And the fact that most German borne Turks to play football at a high level have chosen Turkey in the past. Ex. Atlintop bros and Nuri Sahin.

An estimated 60% (24 million) of Argentina's population has some sort of Italian descent. Making it the largest ethnicity group in the country.

27% of Argentines have been abducted by aliens at least once in their lifetimes. It's a well-known fact.

doubt Camo's decision had much to do with national identity; think it was more of a career choice for him. Similar to G. Rossi.
Career choice played in, but Rossi is 2nd generation Italian, his parents born and raised in Italy, moved to US for work, and he moved back to Italy (for footie) as 12-13 year old. Pretty sure he identities with Italy alot more then say the argie Oriundi's who's great great grandfather came from Italy a century and half ago (or in general pre WW2 days...).
