That was a horrible half. I came back to my desk 5 minutes from time. The Vuvuzelas are even more annoying in a big hall, its very difficult to hear the commentator is there is no sound system. And the ball is cack.

Well, that was really really poor, especially in the first half. Van der Vaart and Sneijder clogged up in midfield, leaving our left flank dead. They did that much much better in recent friendlies. When Elia came on we started playing a bit better, as he plays wider, but not one moment we saw what we expected really.

I see a lot of people who really don't like De Jong, but he's definitely more than 'just a thug'. The amount of interceptions he makes is really important, though he needs to calm down a bit with his tackles, he often takes it a bit far.

Elia did what he's supposed to, very nicely done.

Van der Wiel. See what I mean when I promote him? :D

The rest were piss poor, nothing to be proud of. 3 points nevertheless.

Nonchalant by Kjaer.
Seen it quite a lot. Must work on that. He's losing concentration and doesn't fight till the end. I can probably find 3-4 similar goals only from this year that Palermo conceded due to Kjaer's nonchalance.
I criticized Chiellini a lot for clearing the ball even when he can calm down and make a pass, but it's still much better than what Kjaer is doing very often.

Oh, and I will never understand how can people not rate Kuyt. Every team needs such a player with never say die attitude. Coaches know that and that's why he's irreplaceable everywhere he plays.

Congrats Ken, you should be satisfied unlike Fred now :D
:D

He'll be raging, since he didn't get the football show he expected.

Very one paced and narrow from the Dutch.

They may have suffered against a team with a half decent attack.
I haven't seen us play this poor in a long long time. Atleast we got it out the way and still grabbing those 3 points.

Indeed. I must say that this another boring match that didn't impress me about either side. The Danes were worse but I can't say the Dutch did much to make you think they deserve to go far.

Oh and Congrats Ken. :D

A characteristic of a big team. :agree:
You won't keep playing like this. You'll keep improving match after match and you'll get a huge boost with Robben's comeback. This team will make the semis, at least.

Japan - Cameroon up next. I am missing it as well.

Hopefully the Azzurri would do their best to entertain me this evening after missing out on two matches.

You think?

By my reckoning, if everything goes as expected, Holland play Brazil in the quarter final.

We'll save Robben until the knock-out stages, though he'll probably get a few minutes in the last game in the group. That's what people expect Van Marwijk to do anyway.

I agree we should probably give Elia some more playing time on that left wing, as we saw what happens when we play Sneijder next to VDV, it's just too narrow and we cause our own problems. They did that much better in the friendlies, by the way. A winger like Elia, with confidence, can be a great weapon, especially if you have Robben on the other side.

I'm confident for the rest of the tournie, but we need to step it up a bit. I think we really underperformed today, but the win is there, so no damage done.

;)

That's what I keep telling myself, as we never used to be good at winning 'bad' games.

We could give Brazil a good run for their money, imo.
