Sensible post

However when talking about another national side the word 'We' should never come into the equation. First and foremost you support the country from which your born into.

Let me use me as an example.

England's Ice-Hockey team is poor. Do I support Canada? America?

England Rugby team is not too sharp either. Do I support New Zealand,Australia?

Englands Cricket team used to be shambolic- Do I support Australia,India,Pakistan

Just because you're national side is not good at one sport does'nt mean you should go off supporting another National team. That for me is weak. That for me shows you just seek glory.
It's not about seeking glory. What glory is there to get when you're a supporter? Even if Juventus win I don't take any of the glory. I wasn't on the pitch, I didn't do shit.

I like Italy, so I support them. Does it mean that I tell everyone about it? Hell, I think most people don't even know I like Italy. I don't go in a bar shouting forza azzurri or something. I just like them.

But you tell me. I watched the World Cup final in piazzale Michelangelo (from which you can see all of Firenze) with hundreds of Italians next to me. I watched the Euros in Bologna. Why the fuck should I not want the Italians to win then? Why the fuck is that so wrong?

You make good points Horri.

However is this not why you find a connection to Juventus? as most of the members here do the same especially because were not from Turin or even from Italy.

Supporting another Nationality different to your origin is something I cannot understand and I will never accept. I suppose I'm lucky due to my nation having an adequate football team however what if one day I thought. Well Brazil seem sucessful and play the best I'll support them over England that would be so wrong.

Theres nothing wrong with appreciating Italys football or wanting to watch them. However to cheer for them passiontly is wrong.

I've been to Italy many times, adore the country it's very beautiful in parts. I also like to watch Italy but thats where it ends. I cannot pull myself to jump up and down when they score.
It's Napoli. Of course you don't support Italy. But this faux patriotism is annoying.

Nationalism is an invention. You've been designed to love your country. Take a deep look at kindergarten. Wasn't there a lot of talk about America?

For people who aren't brainwashed on such a regular basis, nations mean far less. Take a look at Italy for example. Is it truly a nation? Is someone from Milano the same as someone from Napoli?

Typical hypocrite. Castigates people for supporting their own country yet indulges himself into the support of a sovereign nation... Italy.

But I 'get it', you're belgian. You don't exist.

I JUST said Italy weren't even a nation.

How stupid can you be, Andy? How unaware of the world around you can you be?

Wrong in your opinion. To me, Iran is a white jersey and Italy is a blue one. That's all. You can't blame me for preferring the blue jersey.

I've been to Italy many times, adore the country it's very beautiful in parts. I also like to watch Italy but thats where it ends. I cannot pull myself to jump up and down when they score.
That's alright. But what shall I do when I can't help jumping up and down when they score?

I don't see any problem supporting another nation, as long as those people don't brag about and start going crazy and claim WE the ....... or US or OUR national team.
Boohoo, give me a break. All the fuss because someone refers to them with "we", "us", "our"?

Although, the way I feel here is what some who support more than one club, for example, may feel. We look down on that and chastise it, but there is nothing wrong in supporting Man U and Barca like Maher, other than what us snobbish fans think.
Exactly.

This is for you Ahmed

I tend to avoid the argument like the plague because it's an unwinable one. However people cheering for the US tonight who are not American pissed me off quite abit thats why I lashed out. I said fanboys and fabgirls in general annoy me I never mentioned the Azzurri ones. My post was aimed at the idiots who were cheering for America in this thread. It was Hoori who immediatly jumped the gun.
Ah well that's because I was cheering for America too last night :p
But it's not because I hate England, I just like USA so much. I like England too and I want them to to do well in the World Cup.

Indeed. I will never forgive Uche

ok whats been happening here?

my take on things so far-
England- Gerrard was already trying to blame the ball for the Yanks goal but it was obvious from the first viewing that Green's body positioning was all wrong,he fucked his angles up and the ball came side on to him,at least the media have a fall-guy now. they will still progress but they will not wina world cup playing Heskey up front and Carragher-Terry will cost them goals with their lack of pace

Argentina-played well within themselves and nearly blew it,if they play like that against the big teams they will get bombed out. that said i was surprised but Maradonna seen the problems Nigeria were causing down the left wing and made a good tactical change, maybe he is not as foolish as we think.

France-lack leadership on the pitch and off it,unless Diaby pulls off some wonder performances they have no drive in midfield and it is incomprehensable that they will play 1 man up front but not take the 1 forward (Benzema) who is capable of playing thatb role

No, but it is a part of the problem that I will explain to you. I am from Lebanon, which is in the Middle East. In the ME all Arab football fans cheer for one of the big teams (Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, and etc). There isn't any problem in that, the problem is they are annoying doing and can't take football or any other critisim directed at the country they cheer for. A small example I was having a conversation with a guy I know back home, he is a fan of the German NT. So I said something about the style of the German that I didn't like, and he said to me "What do you know, you are just hating on us, we the Germans the 3 times world champions and nobody can come close to our work ethic" He also got so mad. I looked at him saying WTF. This boy was born in the heart of the ME, WTF that lazy bum know about the Geramn effieciency and work ethic. A huge chunk of the fans are like this in the ME, they are very defensive, won't take any thing said not in their team favor, and when they talk back the words they use :segrio: you would think they were born in the middle of Rome, Rio de Janeiro, or Berlin. The attitude is a turn off, and that's the only problem with it. For example I like to cheer for the Netherlans, and then I also enjoy watching Brazil, but I won't be fighting people who critisize something about the way the Netherland play and then say to them "We the people of Ntherland will not take shit from you little cockroach "

Good point, Delle Alpi. Although I will defend Italy against people who racially abuse them (and that happens more often than you would imagine).
