Firstly I'm Irish so I actively support an insignificant team that rarely qualifies for any tournaments and I don't walk around decked out in Holland gear shrieking oranje oranje! We watch International Football because it's an extension of league football it's on huge cop out to start supporting a big NT that plays seschy football, Vichy France comes to mind.

I'll root against the nation of England every single time until they give my country back in its entirety, apologies publicly and accept all culpability for genociding my people and they shut the fuck up about 1966.

I cheer for the USA because they were considered underdogs and they aren't an arrogant ponce filled footballing nation like France or England, and Germany V Englnd would most likely be a shit 1-1 draw

That does not mean you're a fan of us, by the way.

To Andy and all Americans, I am not going to say congrats becasue you should have pulled a win, but good job. I liked the way USA controlled the ball in in the midfield and kept possession. Very good performance, now on to the next one

When we scored, aka they scored on themselves, the whole bar went ballistic. Not even standing room was left. It was a glorious occasion, with the mass emotional power at its climax.

Who the fuck says Americans don't love this game? Our fucking pub was packed to the tip, all with US fans having as much fervent support as me. It was a mad house, one that I live for.

you and the people who were in the pub definitely love the game, it is just those ones that have nothing better to do than attacking the game as we care. The pure arrogance of American media and some sports fans too is annoying. Call your sports winner as WORLD CHAMPION

Fuck these guys. The American media is a cancer. Even I admit that.

Great result for us, fucking furious I missed the match. Saw loads of USA fans in DC, which was great!
How did you miss the match, H?

our media hasn't yet reached the point of being comparable to the british media, but it's getting there.
I missed the match because I had a family commitment I couldn't get out of in good conscience. The sad thing was that it was at my uncle's bar, which didn't have a bloody TV! I had to take the metro in to DC, and seeing all those US fans made me even more frustrated to have to miss it

Lying about what? I could have easily been of another nationality. My nationality is not what I'm proud of, nor is this what I'm ashamed of. I can be only proud/ashamed of myself and what I'm doing myself. I owe nothing to the place I live. I sure want my country to be successful in all respects but this is only because I want to live in a better place. Now, what does football have to do with it and how can it make my country a better one? I don't have to cheer for the teams who represent my country when I don't feel connected to them so what kind of crap is this? I like football because it lets me enjoy my time and for this I personally need to be a fan. It's just a sport not a complicated matter of being loyal or not to your nation.
Again, you don't have to support anybody. IF you really loved the game, you'd respect it as such, and just support it as a neutral. You know, as millions of people do throughout the world, or as you do when Juventus is knocked out of the CL. But you don't.

Those who live through the glory of other nationalities are living a lie.
