certain periods of time where every other winger was injured :p

he was a 90ies player .... back then a bit of walking in the park and crossing was enough ... today where you have way less time and space it is not really his game
Still, no reason to bash the guy, he's a stand-out player of his generation, we'd never know how good would he be at 2010 or 2006 if he was 10 years younger.

Despite the good performance of the Germans in both halves, it must be said that the linesman horrible call changed the game drastically.
Not drastically as the English certainly didn't make up much after their goal and didn't even bother the Germans in the 2nd half. But it would have probably changed both of the teams approach to the game after the half time whistle.

Having a 2-0 lead changed to a 2-2 draw in a few minutes could have changed the game drastically for the Germans. England had good chances in the second half too before Germany scored on a counter. This 4-1 result is somehow misleading, the English have the right to complain about that absolutely horrible call. Such things must never happen in the World Cups when one or two mistakes could change the whole game. What a shame!
