You would have hoped so. But Italy got big calls against them too in 2006. The red card for Matrix, the penalty in the final.. All in all I think they deserved the win in 2006. I can't say the same for Korea in 2002. Or even Brazil TBH.

But Italy weren't overall favored by the officials in the 2006 WC. They got some calls their way and some against.

that's up for interpretation, and that is the ref's decision...was it a foul on Grosso? absolutely.

That rule doesn't seem to be enforced any more.

Penalties always seem to be given for obstruction in the box.

Dunno of any specific instances, I was trying to be a reasonable fanboy.

The PK might have been technically legal since there was contact but the contact was soft and Grosso could have stayed up.
