Such a similar road for England and Italy so far.

Both got easy (EASY ::D) groups, both played the group's 2nd best team in the opening round and both drew. In the second round both played strong outsiders and both drew. They both deeply disappointed so far.
Now they will have to save their asses in the last round against countries with very similar name, one against Slovakia and the others against Slovenia. :D
Well put...plus both have Italian coaches. :D

But one huge difference there , Azzurri have a better goal difference. :D

Good analogy Alen. Maybe if both teams get knocked out, they can have a mini 2 team tournament to see who sucks the most.
Make it a 3 team tournament by adding France.

Although, it won't be an interesting tournament because we all know who'll win in sucking the most. The match for 2nd place between ITA and ENG might be interesting, though.

Seriously though every player talks about how they will give it their all if they get to represent their country & then play like they are in a training session with school boys before realising that there is only 5 minutes left. All of a sudden they start hustling, collecting the ball for the opposition goalie to take the goalkick, pester the referee about stopping the watch and run like they got the second wind. It's soo comical!

Just heard something interesting on tv (don't know if it's right): Only in four World Cups have Germany been defeated in the group stages: 1954, 1974, 1982, 1986. Goodbye Argentina? :D

If what I stated above is true, Germany have lost games in the group stages in 1954 and 1974 and they have won the whole thing eventually.
No, I checked. In 1974 West Germany had 3-0-0 in the groups and won the whole thing. It was East Germany that had 2 defeats in their group.

In 1954 West Germany did indeed lose a group match and ended up winning.

Remember Swag's Rule of International Cups: He Who Shows in a Big Production Nike Ad Will Not Show Up.

Let's see our running tally thus far this year for Nike's "Write the Future" ad:

Drogba: nice cast, Mr. Anonymous
Cannavaro: gag me against NZ
Ribery: team implosion and individual suckdom
Rooney: get ready for that trailer park, Holmes
Ronaldinho: Who? Where? Hope you're getting good TV reception for this WC
Ronaldo: last seen scoring an international goal in 2008

Let the choking continue...
