This WC final is somewhat an irony of what happened in Euro 2000 final
Up to the point when Zidane scored, I'm afraid that the nightmare will happen again. But when Matrix equalised, I breathed a sigh of relief and Italy is dominating in the 1st half.
But what frightens me is what happened in the 2nd half, when Zidane and co showed themselves and dominated, putting in grit and fighting for no tomorrow. Wiltord's presence made me glued to the screen in disbelief as I remembered he scored the equaliser and I was hoping nothing went wrong for Italy, and last of all Trezeguet stepped into the pitch. For the 1st time I feel really frightened watching a final, because everybody knows that Trez is a penalty box predator. Up to the point when Zidane was sent off, I almost fained as I know that penalties are looming, and amazingly Trezeguet missed. What a crazy game for me.
Anyway what is the most ironic is that
Materazzi, from football villian to hero of Italy
and
Zidane, from football legend to France villian, he didn't even step up to take his medal, really a sad day for France.
But despite that I still think that Matrix will be remembered in this WC as the person who provoked Zidane for decades to come

If what has been said is true, then i wish Marco burns in hell.
FIFA wanted this world cup to be racism free... but if Materazzi thinks that he is above this basic human right ,then i'll be the first to call for his permamnat suspension from football......
I cheered for Italy through out the world cup... But Materazzi's involvement in another ugly incident of football disgusts me and puts me off....
I dont justify Zidane's action ... but if Marco is found to be a racist, then i would go as far as handing the trophy to the french , as rasicm has nothing to do with football.

It was a great game, although I must say not so great for Italia...they played wonderfully in the first half but always looked breachable at the back despite Cannavaro's form. According to the first half, Italy deserved to win it...
But the rest of the game was all france...they had all the possessions, all the chances. They created opportunities and denied them on the other end, all France's players were solid, except for Barthez who I suspect is not so solid although he was never tested.
Even after Vieira's exit, France still was the better team, attacking from left to right and through the middle. If anyteam looked to score it was France.
But the deciding minute was when Zidane was sent off. I didn't know what happened at first, aside from Buffon running like mad to the reffs! But when I saw the replay I just couldn't believe it...!!
I thought perhaps Matrix had a wack at him first although not shown, but then when they showed the whole sequence of what happened, I was really baffled. Matrix just provoked Zidane verbally....aside from the glad feeling that France's main threat was going to come off, I felt sympathy for Zidane.. Although he's known to be a villian at times I just couldn't see him making such a move without any physicall provocation. By that time I was really pondering what on earth Matrix could have said to him...I was pretty sure that it must have been something awfully racist /religious to make somebody react that way...
I agree with Domenach, while it doesn't justify what Zidane did, I do sympathize for him. I haven't heard of what exactly Matrix said, but until I do, I will still have respect and sympathy for Zidane while at the same time I will still be Happy that the Azzurri, Del Piero, Cannavaro, Zambrotta and Buffon get their deserved World Cup trophy...I just couldn't be more happier for them...
Disappointed to see Zizou win the Golden ball though coz I think Cann should've won it regardless of the red card Zizou got, and more so because of it..

I think the same as you...I doubt provocation by calling Zidane names or even humilitaing his wife or family would anger him so much..

With all due respect to Canna, I think Zizou was the best player in this world cup by far ..... Cannavaro was a true leader and a hell of a player..
