I know I may have exagerrated a bit, but every where I see, there are at least 10to 20 idiots that will say Zidane is sh!t or whatsoever. Those ignorant people who only watch the WC and not follow football will say that Zidane is stupid.

I do believe that both players are at fault, but what Matrix said does leave something to be desired. Or else Zidane wouldn't have reacted like that. Both players should be banned, not because of Zidane as a football legend, but when you something that is so atrocious, you deserve the ban.

What Matrix said is only half true, Zidane did look at him from top to bottm and exhanged a few words, but now I'm waiting for what Zidane has to say which will be at France's evening time.
yeah, many will criticize zidane, but i've got a feeling more actually feel sympathy for him.

Here in Indonesia, considering the Muslim majority population, the media are playing to the racial issue more than the violent retaliation.

Even more so since that shitty Italian politician (sorry to all italians here) Calderoli who made that racist comment about the French National team.

i feel sad for thuram, trezi, makelele, and even zidane but i guess maresca said is right....it would've been a sad moment if this generation of italian players dont have anything to show for their excellence. Its bad enough that maldini retired without anything internationally to show for it, in reference to titles ofcourse

What in the name of "Jebus" (to be religiously correct) is this about FIFA considering to have a rematch of the Final, because some french lawyers say so? This is ridiculous. I hope FIFA, for once, does the right thing and accepts Zidane made a silly (I don't care how Materazzi's insult might spin it) mistake (and no the first time it happens) and that Italy won the World Cup. Period.

Haven't heard. Sounds less like FIFA and more like Blatterspeak.

Blatter really needs to take up binge drinking. At least then he could blame the alcohol for half the things he says.

Zinedine Zidane said on Wednesday that Italian defender Marco Materazzi insulted his mother and his sister during the World Cup final against Italy. The French captain was then sent off after head-butting Materazzi's chest in the second period of extra time of the match.

"He (Materazzi) pronounced very tough words about my mother and my sister. I tried not to listen to him but he kept repeating them," Zidane told in a live interview on French television.

Zidane offered an apology to all children and to all fans for his behaviour but he said he did not regret it.

"This was not something to do. I want to make it clear because it was watched by two billion people and by millions of kids," Zidane said.

"I want to apologise to them but I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he (Materazzi) was right to say what he said."

"I want to ask for forgiveness from all the children who watched that," he said. "There was no excuse for it. I want to be open and honest about it."

Playing the last game of his career, Zinedine was shown a red card, leaving his team mates finish the match without him. France lost on penalties.

Zidane denied Materazzi called him an Islamic "terrorist", as was reported by a Parisian anti-racism group.

Zidane is of Algerian origin, his parents being born in the village of Aguemone in the Kabylie region.
