A second-half Mirko Vucinic strike saw Juventus rescue a point from a feisty encounter with Bologna. The hosts went in front after seventeen minutes through a well-taken Marco Di Vaio goal, but the Bianconeri showed plenty of heart to raise their game after the break and grind out an equaliser their efforts more than merited.

Conte was forced into several changes from the side which drew at home to Chievo on Sunday. Injuries to Barzagli and Chiellini saw Caceres and Bonucci replace the defensive duo at the heart of the Bianconeri rearguard. Vidal returned from suspension to reprise his midfield role, while Pepe and Borriello joined Vucinic in a three-pronged attack.

It was the January arrival from Roma who fashioned Juve’s first attempt on goal in the opening stages, controlling the ball on the edge of the area before steering a low left-footed strike straight at Gillet.

Moments later, Lichtsteiner released Pepe down the right flank, allowing the winger time and space to identify Marchisio lurking unmarked in the penalty area. Raggi, however, anticipated the danger and stepped in to hack the ball clear.

Pioli’s side, had lost just one of their last nine championship fixtures, began to creep back into the encounter and created a half-chance when Diamanti’s cross angled dangerously towards Buffon’s far post.

But the Rossoblu made no mistake with their second opportunity, as a familiar face came back to haunt his former employers. Ramirez picked out Di Vaio’s perfectly timed run and the veteran striker made no mistake, slotting past Buffon to register his ninth goal of the season.

The breakthrough saw both sides become increasingly combative in a congested midfield. Juventus stepped up the rhythm as they looked to find an instant way back, while Bologna defended doggedly to protect their slender advantage.

Vidal had the only noteworthy effort as the first-half fizzled out, sending a fierce effort over the bar from a central position after being played into space by Vucinic.

The restart again saw Juventus reminded of the threat posed by Ramirez, as the playmaker took the ball down before striking a dipping half-volley from distance which whistled over Buffon’s bar.

Yet the Bianconeri’s increased forward drive soon bore fruit shortly before the hour mark. There seemed to be little danger as Pirlo gained possession in a central position, but with a simple glance forward and a delicate through ball, the midfield general fed Vucinic, who remained equal to the task by clipping delicately over Gillet.

Having restored parity, Juventus refused to rest on their laurels and went all out for the winner, with Lichtsteiner and Marchisio both going desperately close to grabbing the lead. The Swiss full-back was denied by a reaction save after connecting with Pepe’s cross, while the goalkeeper pulled off another superb stop from the midfielder’s follow up.

With tensions threatening to boil over on the pitch, Banti sent Conte to the stands, leaving his assistant Angelo Alessio to pass on any final instructions to Giaccherini and Quagliarella, who replaced Vucinic and Borriello.

Bonucci was also given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card late on. This saw Pepe sacrificed as Padoin came on to add some fresh legs to the ten men.

The result sees Juventus register their third consecutive draw and extend their unbeaten run to 26 Serie A encounters. Conte’s men will be back in action on Sunday when they make the trip to face Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris.
