Great work handling what sounds like a very challenging situation. The sanctions are fucking bullshit.

In my organisation, we're balls deep in M365 so we're using Exchange Online.

Nothing is wrong with Linux-based open source. The question is always around support. Community support exists, but if something mission-critical breaks and I have the CEO standing over my desk, I don't want to be relying on community support. I want the software vendor on the phone with defined SLAs.

I must admit I'm a pussy when it comes to self-hosted email services for an Enterprise. Incoming mail is the easy part, but outbound mail makes me think about potential deliverability issues (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, Reverse DNS) and complexity around managing spam and reputation.

I would start with the requirements. What business features are needed? (e.g. integrated calendars, mobile sync, webmail with UI, etc.). What are other companies in Iran doing for mail?
Basically, I configure and support services and devices in my job. This is a task that is included in the contract. We have agreed on support for Cisco devices, firewalls, and Linux and Microsoft services, which all of them are on my side. The company does not pay the service vendor or any third party company. Of course, it goes without saying that we have some servers and services on the network that are supported outside the organization, such as the attendance and absence device management server (which collects employee attendance data from devices equipped with facial recognition and calculates the duration of attendance and leave), the salary calculation and payroll issuance platform, the ERP system, and the antivirus server. In fact, these servers require a license and cannot be run for free.
For Email, Im looking for a server a secure, full-featured, consider self-hosting that offers robust features and strong security measures without requiring a license, features such as Webmail, Mobile Access, Calendar and Contacts, Spam Filtering, Antivirus Scanning and DKIM, DMARC and etc. Im able to run it on Docker and kubernetes and not need to a vendor. I do it on my own.

I don't have personal experience with it, but I have heard good things about "mailcow". It's a docker-based stack.
