Christian Vieri has surprisingly offered his services to demoted Italian giants and former club Juventus.

The much-travelled striker, currently a free agent after recently rescinding his contract with Sampdoria, is apparently considering a return to the jersey he wore in 1996.

The player’s agent is due to contact the club on Monday afternoon to confirm his client’s availability to play with Juventus – even if it were to be in Serie B.

Juve sporting director Alessio Secco will reportedly listen to the player’s plan, but has not guaranteed that the club will accept his offer.

Vieri signed for Doria at the start of July, accepting a reduced £575,000 salary in return for a one-year deal, but never joined the team for pre-season training.

His contract was finally cancelled in August and rumours suggested he may retire from the game completely.

Vieri turned 33 in July and has also appeared for Torino, Pisa, Ravenna, Venezia, Atalanta, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Inter and Milan, before a brief spell at Monaco that ended with a knee injury which ruled him out of Germany 2006.

Juventus reject Vieri offer
Tuesday 22 August, 2006
Christian Vieri’s future is still unclear after Juventus told his agent that they had no desire in signing him.

Vieri surprisingly offered his services to the demoted giants on Monday, but the 33-year-old will not be wearing the Bianconeri jersey this term.

Reports suggest that the Turin club rejected his approach after Coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that he saw no need to sign the former Azzurri striker.

Vieri, currently a free agent after rescinding his contract with Sampdoria, is apparently now set to contact Atalanta – another of his former clubs – with the same offer.

The player has been paired with Shakhtar Donetsk and is also considering a spell in Qatar’s multi-million pound championship to end his career, although money doesn’t seem to be Vieri’s main concern.

The 33-year-old striker accepted a reduced £575,000 salary in return for a one-year deal with Sampdoria in July, before cancelling the contract in August, and may take into consideration similar offers.

However, Vieri has not ruled out the idea of starting a new television career in an Italian reality show, thus suggesting he may still be pondering retiring from football completely.
