Juventus and Roma are preparing to lock horns in this afternoon’s Viareggio Cup final. 34 contenders have fallen by the wayside, with the two Italian giants remaining to fight it out for the ultimate prize.

Both teams will face their seventh game of this year’s Viareggio Cup campaign. Baroni’s side have enjoyed a more impressive fun to the final, winning all of their six games played – one on penalties. De Rossi’s outfit were beaten in the group stages and required penalties to overcome Fiorentina.

Juventus topped Group 4 courtesy of three wins. They began their run to the final with an impressive 6-1 opening day win over Danish side Nordsjaelland before edging past Apia Leichhardt and Citta di Marino by a single goal. It took penalties to beat Vicenza following a 1-1 draw in normal time, with the next two victories arriving in 90 minutes: 3-1 over Club Guaranì and 1-0 against Parma in the semi-finals.

Defending Italian champions Roma finished at the top of Group 10 despite slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Santos Laguna in their second game. Wins over Club National (2-1) and Virtus Entella (7-2) were enough to take them through to the knockout stages. Atalanta were then brushed aside 3-1, before Rappresentativa di Serie D were beaten 2-0 in the quarter-finals. A penalty shoot-out victory over Fiorentina was enough to book the Giallorossi their place in the final.
