Juventus Primavera completed their work by overcoming 1-0 Città di Marino, thus clinching the third consecutive victory and placing themselves at the top in their Group 4, also becoming seeds among the sixteen teams remained, while waiting for the drawing through which Baroni’s lads will now their opponents’ name.
The clash in Quarrata saw an absolute key figure: Ouasim Bouy. The Dutch player was the match winner, thanks to his left-footed shot far from the box which stirred up the public, and to several chances as well (he hit the post and created a couple of dangerous situations in the second half). Another brilliance after this debut goal against the Danish side Nordsjaelland.
This victory was dedicated to Giuseppe Ruggiero, who this morning underwent meniscus surgery and therefore will be excluded from the rest of the tournament.
Two days after the success over Apia Leichhardt, Marco Baroni confirmed the same selection. Ten men out of eleven got on the pitch, just Corticchia was used instead of Spinazzola, with Emmanuello moving forward.
A 4-3-3 system, with Branescu between the sticks, Carfora, Garcia, Magnusson and Belfasti as defenders, Corticchia, Schiavone and Bouy in midfield, and Margiotta, Libertazzi and Emmanuello forward.
Following the clashes occurred in La Spezia and Viareggio, the Bianconeri experienced a colder weather, close to 0°. They suffered from this climate condition and in the very first minutes they made some defensive mistakes, with all dangers cleared by Branescu.
Unfortunately, in the 10th minute Carfora needed to leave the pitch due to a bruise and Untersee replaced him. The rivals form Lazio also had some difficulties at the back and Margiotta was likely to take advantage of the situation, but the goalkeeper De Lucia cleared. Baroni’s side improved their performance and Margiotta again was close to net following Corticchia’s assist.
The wind and the awful pitch condition didn’t help the show to go on. Mistakes continued to occur on both sides. Citta di Marino tried a dangerous action following a corner which saw Branescu a bit imperfect. But some minutes later the Romanian goalkeeper expressed his talent by diverting a close shot from Laghigna.
Baroni tried to change his system. He moved Emmanuello backwards to deal with a playmaker role close to Schiavone, and moved Bouy forward. Just before the end of the first half, Magnusson had a good chance to take his side in front following a corner action. The first 45 minutes saw a temporary goalless draw which reflected the development of the game.
After the break, the same 22 players returned to the field. The Bianconeri lacked in their clinical attitude, like in the 11th minute when in the box and just close to the rivals’ goal, nobody managed to net. Bouy tried a header following Schiavone’s cross, unfortunately sending the ball by the side of the post.
But the new signing broke the deadlock after 20 minutes with a wonderful left-footed shot, placing the ball just behind the bar. The Dutch player was likely to score a double just some seconds later, but De Lucia cleared using his feet.
Being one goal in front, Juventus continued to battle chasing after their second, but being more focused and against rivals who didn’t change their attitude. Bouy remained under the spotlight and hit the post as well. Schiavone was shown the red card because of protests and Juventus remained with ten men on the pitch. Spinazzola replaced Margiotta, without changing the team’s shape.
Città di Marino started to be more confident and left some spaces free, and the Bianconeri took advantage of the situation: Libertazzi accelerated alone towards the opponents’ goal but he was anticipated by De Lucia.
The match finished and Juventus sealed another victory. Bouy’s brilliance was enough to allow the Bianconeri to lead their group with three wins in a row. Now, Baroni and his lads will wait for the drawing in order to know their new rival’s name.
