Can you believe these ungrateful bas***ds...

UEFA HAVE `TREATED US WITH CONTEMPT ' - LIVERPOOL FANS
By Paul Walker, PA Sport
Liverpool have been ``treated with contempt'' by UEFA after being forced to
play in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

That is the view of Les Lawson, spokesman for the Liverpool International
Supporters' Club.

He welcomed the European champions' inclusion in next season's competition,
but criticised European football chiefs.

The club will have to play in the first qualifying stage, with no country
protection. That means if they get to the third qualifier they could be drawn
against Everton.

Lawson said: `UEFA have been caught with egg on their faces over this because the FA put the first four in the Premiership into next season's tournament.`

`It means UEFA have had to sort it out and they have done the minimum
possible. They have treated their own champions with contempt.`

`It is a disgrace, Liverpool are the top team in Europe because they are the
holders and have beaten Europe's best. They are being treated like TNS or other very small clubs .`

`To be told they have to start in the first qualifier is wrong and a real
kick in the teeth.''

Uefa has once again shown itself to be a spineless organization with arbitrary rulings. First they cancel the automatic qualification for the winner, then they go back on that when the first instance occurs. It reeks of stupidity and shortsightedness.

I hope they get knocked out btw.
Liverpool is a great team and I believe the winner should be automatically qualified, but fact is that's not what the rules stated. You have to follow your own rules, uefa.

Frankly I wonder how they hope to enforce rules about supporter conduct in the stadia, all that trouble Roma got themselves into this year. And they got sanctioned for it but if Uefa can't even stick to their own rules, how do they expect the clubs will respect those rules? Every club will know a situation always gives room for special treatment, it's a mess!

Actually, I am more irritated with UEFA here. Spineless whimps. I cannot believe they fell for such a plea based more on emotion than technical merit. Now fourth-placed finishers in domestic leagues may have to wish malice against their fellow country sides that make it deep in the CL -- in hopes of their own qualifying prospects for the next season.

This is really a sad day for European football.

Its even worst then you think, If Liverpool get into the Champions League group stage, it means Everton will lose out, on an estimated 15m that is rightfully theirs!!

From what I read, Nicole, it sounded like Everton wouldn't lose out this year. But anyone in Everton's place in the future would -- which I find truly offensive.

Welcome to the new Champions-Except-If-You're-Not-But-Won-Last-Year's-Tournament League. :(

Serious, they are good to lose out, I read the quote, it said along the lines of "Liverpool will be placed in the English pool for TV rights", from I believe that ever-so-delightful chap Gallard.

That guy is a cock. If you ever actually see him on TV you will soon realise that. So this is hardly a shocker.

Nicole, stop making promising thread titles for shit threads. You are wasting my time here! :D

Just be grateful people. If UEFA had any balls Liverpool wouldn't even be in the Champions League next term, probably where they should be.

It's just a tragedy and I feel for the supporters of the club that have to face Pool in the qualifying rounds.
