The UEFA European Football Awards recognise the élite footballing performances matching ability, skill and sportsmanship during the previous UEFA Champions League season. Now entering its sixth year at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, the Football Awards have become a regular fixture as they allows fans to relive memorable moments from European club football's premier competition.

Users' award
This season, for the first time, uefa.com users will have the opportunity to decide one of the award winners on the night, by voting for the 'Goal of the season'. We have gathered nominees from polling on uefa.com throughout the season to provide you with 25 options. The winner of the award will be announced at the Football Awards ceremony on Thursday 28 August.

Vote now!
But uefa.com users will also have the possibility to participate in electing the most prestigious awards, namely the best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best forward and most valuable player from a list of players who have progressed beyond the group stages of last season's UEFA Champions League. Each member of UEFA's technical team - which includes top coaches like Marcello Lippi, Sir Alex Ferguson, Gérard Houllier, Giovanni Trapattoni and Rinus Michels - will make his selection and the collective vote of uefa.com users will be used to create an additional voting form – in this way, uefa.com has a seat at the technical team's table.

The shortlists
A poll will be held for each of the four categories – best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder and best forward – and a short list of five players will be named per position. The winners in each position will be announced at the Football Awards, and one of these will also be named 'Most valuable player'. In the event of a tie, the uefa.com users' collective result will hold the casting vote. Polling for the 2002/03 awards will close at midnight on Thursday 31 July and the short lists will be published prior to the Football Awards ceremony, which takes place on Thursday 28 August.

Other winners
Other winners will also be announced at the Football Awards based on different criteria defined by UEFA such as Coach of the Year, the UEFA President's Lifetime Achievement Award and the ESM Golden Shoe.
