UEFA Cup - Maybe need a change? (1 Viewer)

the uefa cup should have been a very good trophy to win and a team that win the uefa cup should be very happy.
but now some think the structure is boring and major change is nedeed.
it seems that it's not such a big deal to win it and the clubs treat this cup as ahhh.... - one more trophy to the cups room!! big deal

last year milan and inter had thier big chance to win the cup and make the final top interesring (derby at the final - whould have been great) but the cup looked to them very less importent then the league (inter i can understand). both of the milanese teams absolutely failed and the cup winners were feyenoord (hate them)- a team that finish third in thier own league.

maybe the structure should be change from top to top. or maybe the prizes should be bigger, or maybe the winner and the vice winner go automatically to the champions league.

what do you think is the problem? if you have any suggestions it can be good. talk about the prediction to this year and everything you can say to fill this thread, dedicate to the dying cup.

The problem is that all the good teams end up in the CL with the current format. We should change it back to only 1-2 teams from the biggest leagues qualify into the CL and not 3-4 as it is now. That way the UEFA Cup would be appreciated a lot more imo.

There is no problem - you just didn't see your favourite team win it (or you didn't see the final you had hoped for - if you will)...

Yes and bring a lot of television money for the UEFA cup.
The money for winning the CL(or the cup as it would go back to being) should be increased to compensate the clubs for lost television money. this would increase the status of both competitions and make the European cup the competition where the really best clubs would participate.

I think that the CL should have less teams, but more games. And the UEFA cup should have some kind of good prize, like a whole crap load of money.

Well, they're thinking about changing the Uefa Cup into a league.
That would bring in a lot more money, especially if the quality of the competition was raised by only allowing 1 or 2 teams from every league in to the European Cup.

Maybe, or maybe not.

You're not going to attract clubs to the Uefa cup if ontly two or three teams have a chance of making the big bucks. Without tv-money to the clubs, they won't put in the effort of going for the cup full speed, making the cup less interesting than it could be.

By making the Uefa Cup into a league, clubs'll make the money that they want, while if the status of the competition was raised they wouldn't feel as if they were involved in a second-rate competition.
