On Saturday afternoon, the Bianconeri’s first Champions League opponents, Chelsea, maintained their position at the top of the Premier League with a 0-0 draw against Queens Park Rangers.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side pushed for a win but were forced to settle for a point after some resilient QPR defending kept the likes of Edin Hazard and Fernando Torres at bay. The goalless stalemate puts the Blues one point clear of Manchester United at the summit of the English championship.
Over in Ukraine, Shakhtar sealed their ninth successive victory by beating Zorya 3-0. Strikes from Alex Teixeira, Mkhitaryan and Luiz Adriano strengthened the reigning champions’ grip on first place.
Nordsjaelland, meanwhile, slipped to a 2-1 defeat against leaders FC Copenhagen. It started well enough for Kasper Hjulmand’s men, with Parkhurst hitting the opener on the stroke of half time. However, goals from Vetokele and Cornelius handed the hosts a deserved victory.
