Well, soccer is the most played youth sport in the nation. That is the one hope for us. But unfortunately, propaganda and media idiots like Jim Rome push kids away from the sport, labeling it childish adjectives and not giving it much of a spotlight. The media here loves to highlight how we aren't very good at the game and how we might "never go far because soccer just isn't our sport." Horse shit, we have kids all over the country playing it.

The problem is a combination of things. Mediocre coaching, poor investment, peer pressure and idiotic stereotypes are certainly part of it. But perhaps the most detrimental fact of all is that NBA, NFL and MLB players get outrageous salaries, far more than an MLS player ever will. If that could be reversed overnight, I bet that in the next decade or two we'd have better athletes on the pitch. After all, folks go where the money is. If there wasn't so much hardcore marketing of these other sports, we'd be in great shape.

Which is why I hate the likes of Jim Rome and hope he is removed from the airwaves. He is a cunt, pure and simple.

Its almost the same here in Australia. We even have those idiots from Aussie Rules and Rugby putting dents in the world cup bid.

Many of the kids are playing football but that means nothing because they will drop it in a second if they feel they can't make a career out of it (which is what is happening here if I'm not mistaken). Some of the players in the top tier were doing part time or thinking of studying or what not. Then you have the problem with infrastructure which is on going and will be for a long time.

The only difference is that here, the athletes of the other competitions don't get outrageous wages. But footballers get lesser money ofcourse.

The MLS season starts this Thursday night with the Seattle Sounders playing the new expansion team the Philly Union. Apparently Lincoln Financial's lower bowl is sold out for the opener, totaling 37,000 seats. Not a bad start I suppose, but I still have my doubts for the team.

They have some good players. US National team CB's Danny Califf and Michael Orozco play for them now, along with two of our top keeper talents at the U-23 level in Chris Seitz and Brian Perk. Then they got DC United's Fred who is also good along with the sick Danny Mwanga who was the first pick in the MLS draft. He's from the Congo and left Oregon State after tearing shit up as a freshman.

The Union have a decent squad but it is not as solid as the Sounders' team when they were introduced.

They also got McTierney who's only 18 at number 7 in the superdraft.

They're a really young squad with a good coach and some promising players. I don't think they'll do much in the first year.

Yeah, I think they landed the Orozco deal by trading spots for money with the Red Bulls.

They're really focusing on building a great defense.
