This is one of the few ESPN.com soccer analysts that knows what he's talking about. I've been saying the same stuff about Torres for a year now.
I pretty much agree with the article. The guy seems to actually watch the matches. Regarding left-back, Bornstein used to be pretty decent, but recently he has looked quite bad. But I still believe the best option is have Boca retake the LB spot as that's his most natural position. Therefore, play Marshall or Demerit with Gooch centrally.

Perhaps Torres should get a chance to play in Mikey's spot in midfield, but I doubt his dad will allow that. Moral hazards even show their faces in sport.

Starting lineup:

Howard

Spector - Gooch - Mouthblack - Bornstein

Deuce - Bradley - Clark - Landycakes

Davies - Altidork

At least the front pairing is sound and we're playing the straight 4-4-2. But Bornstein again...

Pretty lethargic performance for most of the match. Timmy Howard really saved us on a few occasions, and the crossbar did once as well. The midfield was particularly having trouble on both ends -- our passing and movement was fairly sluggish, especially on the right side with Dempsey. Jozy and Davies did not receive much service and our defense was shaky away from home as usual.

But the most important thing was grabbing the full points, and now I think we're pretty much set on avoiding the dreaded 4th spot and playoff with CONMEBOL.

Howard - 7.5
Spector - 6
Gooch - 5.5
Bocanegra - 5.5
Bornstein 5.5
Dempsey - 4.5 Horrible
Bradley - 5.5
Clark - 7 Good goal and decent defensive play in midfield
Donovan - 6 average game from him
Davies - 6.5
Altidore - 6.5

Holden - 6
Feilhaber - 6
Ching - NA

The recent performances haven't been good but at least we got the points, USA is now in a pretty good position for qualifying. Donovan, Clark, and Altidore all played pretty well and Howard was once again our savior.

BTW Bradley has been benched at Gladbach indefinitely. Watch, he'll feature in the remaining qualifiers.

Jones is a must in the midfield next summer. No doubt. Best midfielder we (will) have. :shifty:

With regard to that mock roster, I would certainly make some changes. Perhaps once we get a little closer to the main event, we can all select the team we'd want in South Africa.
