Rubbish. Although I admit the transfer system in the MLS seems ridiculous from my point of view, it is in line with some of the other sports there. If Adu had played abroad he would have flopped, as he isn´t ready to play in a big team. According to your theory Adu should be the best player in MLS...which he isn´t.
I'm not saying that Adu is the best player in the MLS however, there are very few that have as much promise as he does. It's like saying that Theo Wolcott should be playing in Confrence instead of in the Prem. How do you develop talent playing against guys that aren't talented? I have no doubt that MLS is in line with sports in America, however that doesn't mean that it is right for the national team. I'm not a big fan of the national team, and it's because they end up taking people that are names instead of talent. And just out of fairness, who is the best player in the MLS?

I don't think anyone is arguing that US players don't need to go to Europe to get better. While the MLS is at the bottom of the world as far as quality, it does do well to develop young players.

I'm new to the boards so forgive me in advance, but I must say this and I apologize to the Americans who feel differently than me, but I must say this:

American soccer's problem is not simply talent but the fact that the talent that it does have stays in the MLS. Which in itself wouldn't be so bad if there were decent players from outside of the states playing here. But there isn't. What the MLS should do is stop buying players contracts and holding it above their heads and let these players play outside the country. Adu would be so much better had he been allowed to stay outside of the country. Now is his chance to fail in Utah. Good luck. Americans do know about soccer, the problem is that there are people who run teams in the MLS that don't get it.
Absolutely correct. This is the problem we face here. Our players are not receiving the highest possible football education by playing lackluster personel in the MLS, and would receive much better training if they would travel overseas to places such as the Eredivise and La Liga where teams would nurture their growth instead of destroying it with hype.

Players such as Adu and Convey have loads of potential, and we can see the differences between them. As we watch Adu languish in MLS with such high expectations he cannot meet, Convey is still holding down that left wing role for Reading and maturing despite being rather young. We can see Bobby's progression through the years and how he has matured since moving to Europe. Now that's no fucking joke people. The better competition in training and matches is in europe, so of course any player will become better while playing there.

It's obvious... this is the problem with our football. The talent is in place, however the league is lacking. It's no friggin joke our Olympic team earns so many metals in the games, espacially that of the summer. It's all about training, and our players would receive the best after they graduate from the MLS at an early age.

The French did it, why not the Americans? Get players from Mali, Algeria, Marrocco, etc and you'll have talent, then put them in Seria A, La Lega or the Holland while they're young. When they get older, you can put some of them in England and watch them on TV with english commentary -you dont want them learning those bad habits when they're young you see or get injured by the style of play-

Problem solved, US in the WC final:D

No, you should know those though, since they are going to raise your taxes to pay for the WAR and the new MINIMUM WAGE, broseppi.

Write me a paper, and I'll answer you in Bush English, which is about as readily readable to you as a paper in Italian is to a blind deaf Mexican.

    Comprende?
