I know what are you wishing, but this is very dangerous. not because it is Islam, but because we need to keep religion as far as away from politics. It is very easy to abuse people with religion, Imagine an idiot comes and they announce him a caliphate, and everyone believe him in all blindness. You know how he can be dangerous and no one to criticize them, since he is a Caliphate in the end, religious (maybe not really that) position you know?

The world has changed, lots of people hate each others because of religion. politicians should be neutral, we don't need George Bush and Usamas, we need to go to the next level. and FFS people should start realizing that religion is a life style, and that's a personal choice, once a religion is gone beyond personal (out of the relation between a God and a human) then it is nothing different than that dirty game called politics..
إذا صلح الراعي, صلح الرعية
However I don't see that happening...Hence I said:
I am doubtful that this could be achieved currently.

@Z: You probably know all of them, and probably have counter-arguments, and I will counter...and have a nice match of ping-pong and bore all the rest with minute details, and at the end neither will convince the other ;)

Oh my god... I think I have actually sided heavily with Snoop on something that concerns religious practice and governance. :shocked2:

:D

The fact that Italy is not longer a Catholic "state" -- where divorce is illegal (I can only think of the old 1960s movie, Divorce Italian Style), etc. -- brings hope for us all.

Not that I don't think there isn't room for religion in daily life. Not that I don't think that some nations shouldn't feel the freedom to experiment with using religious doctrine as a model for earthly governance. But as a general rule, a rule of law that is not based entirely on actions, behaviors, and impacts in this world is one that is primed for abuse, misuse, and justified discrimination.

I'd like to believe that the possibilities are different. But human history -- history of humanity as a species -- is rife with far more bad examples than good when it comes to living by a divine law based upon religious order.

Oh and Snoop the world hasn't changed, religious intolerance has been there for ages.
I know it is there from the beginning, but don't you think it is getting nastier day by day? If we create a Caliphate and a crusade leader on the other side, trust me you wouldn't want to live in a world like that.

    Good start for you :p

I don't know if it is me, but I think human civilization is getting worse to be honest, I doubt it will make it any better if they base their system on religion anymore. I used to think like that before that a religious state could be the perfect state, but it is very dangerous since religion itself is very complicated, a lot of contradiction is there in the books. I can only speak of Bible, it is a great philosophical book, but sure it has some negatives too, that can't be accepted by a free man.
