Trio Ruled Out Of Madrid Job
12/6/2005 3:31:00 AM
Real Madrid have received an emphatic ’no thanks’ from three of the coaches listed as prime targets to replace Vanderlei Luxemburgo at El Santiago Bernabéu with Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benítez and Fabio Capello all being ruled out.
Mourinho has not intention on walking out of Stamford Bridge, where he is his own man and can ask his current boss to by him almost any player that he believes would strengthen his squad.

The former Porto coach left not room for speculation as he stated that he would decline any offer from Madrid.

"For me, this talk is just speculation," said Mourinho.

"I know nothing. Who mentions my name? It is speculation.

"I like Luxemburgo very much, so I am not happy, but that is football. I can achieve all my aims with Chelsea and the next one is to win tomorrow and then the next game against Wigan.

"I wouldn’t go if they called me.

"I have four more years at Chelsea and I hope to win enough trophies in that time to see out my contract and maybe longer."

Benítez was not so strong in his dismissal of rumours linking him with a return to the club that he spent many years at as both a player and a coach, but he did say that he wants to complete his mission at Anfield.

"I am happy at Liverpool, I am Liverpool’s manager and I have a job to do here," the Liverpool manager explained.

"I have said this in the past and now I have an important game in the Champions League against Chelsea to think about and that is all that is on my mind.

"I certainly will not allow this speculation to disrupt my preparation for the game, but as I say, I am happy here at this club."

Capello has said that he could be tempted by a return to Madrid, but only in the summer of 2007 when his contract at Juventus expires, and not before.

The trainer that won the Spanish league for Madrid in 1996-97, has kept out of the spotlight after the sacking of Luxemburgo, but the club’s general director, Luciano Moggi’s statement said it all.

"It’s not so much about the contract but about his close friendship with the club executives," stated Moggi.

"He is really comfortable here and it’s impossible that he would want to go elsewhere."

Hah! They are so dumb changing coach right now. And now they want Eriksson? It's a joke! He is not such a good coach IMO. But it will be interesting to follow cirkus Merenguez, just like it is to follow cirkus Roma ;)
