David Trezeguet is will fly out for a specialist consultation to discover if he requires knee surgery.

The Juventus striker suffered a right knee injury during a friendly match in Trieste on July 31 and has been diagnosed with an inflamed tendon.

The Bianconeri medical staff have made little progress and he will fly to Finland on Friday for a consultation with specialist Professor Sukuri Orava.

It is feared that surgery will be advised, forcing the Frenchman to stay off the playing field for five months.

Trezeguet had already visited Prof. Orava last month, but it was decided to attempt less dramatic steps to his recovery before going in for surgery.

The injury is similar to that suffered by Ronaldo in 1998 and eventually did require an operation.

Juventus are said to have known about the possibility of this happening and therefore splashed out £15m on Parma hitman Marco Di Vaio on the last day of transfer trading.

There are also other relatively serious injuries in Serie A this week. Lazio midfielder Fabio Liverani will be out for at least a month after suffering a calf strain in Sunday’s 1-1 friendly result at Napoli.

Milan will be without defender Thomas Helveg for three weeks. The Dane has been struggling all summer and during today’s training session suffered a new injury.

OK if Trez is out Lippi had better scrap the 3 up front idea for the time being..we need to minimise the chance of another being injured!

i don't know how high the chances are that trez doesn't need to be operated, but i still try to be optimistic...

Personally I think Di Vaio is a great replacement for Trez so if he does need the op we have DP, Salas and Di Vaio, and too a lesser extent Zalayeta but he too is coming up in my estimation at least. Plus there is this Ruben Olivera guy, and I am not sure what kind of an impact he can make.

If Trez doesn't need the op well then the rest of Europe better watch out.

i'm not too worried either way!.....i have faith in ALL the other 4 strickers Juve has:
Del Piero: looking better than last season.
Salas: he's here!! think of him as Amoruso's replacement!
Di Vaio: 85% replacement for Trez.
Zalayetta: This guy does not look good while running, dribling, jumping, shooting or heading, but the Fact remains that he SCORES. and thats all we want from him. ( a hell of a lot better than Amoruso or Esnaider)....so we have a great reserve.

The back up we have is reassuring. I hope Zalayeta continues developing on the ability he showed last season, because to come out of nothing like he did would be fantastic.
